Vanity Fair 100 Years: From the Jazz Age to Our Age
Vanity Fair 100 Years: From the Jazz Age to Our Age
by Graydon Carter
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £26.00

5.0 out of 5 stars A Glowing Evocation of this classic style mag with an intelligent twist, 3 Sept. 2014
Seriously show-topping - and door-stopping book. Just a blissful journey through 100 years of the strangely wonderful VANITY FAIRs that may not always chime with your politics and attitude but the writing is challenging, exciting and intelligent. A real table top (not bedtime) browsing dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really lovely classic design at great (maybe unrepeatable) price, 3 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Cute stylish classic watch bought for my daughter after I purchased the larger male version. Price was strangely (and sadly) temporarily) really low - so a bargain. Price has shot back up by £40 so maybe worth waiting to see if Amazon is likely to drop the price again to under £100 (although it may have been a price glitch since I couldn't see anyone else offering the watch for that little). Apart from that it looks really fab - and I much prefer this Swiss Railway watch in its purest form - without the clutter of date, day on the face (since that really only defeats the purity of the classic design). I'd even prefer it if it missed out the Mondaine credit on the face since that would be a closer and more stripped down match to the iconic clocks in Swiss stations. Paying another £300 just to make the watch Stop and Go (like the station clocks) seems a tadge obsessive and I'd prefer to give the money to a charity!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi versus TomTom, 1 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good value - bought to replace a TomTom that was still working BUT was driving me crazy for 3 reasons: firstly it always had a tendency to take ages to find satellites and often froze and required a full reset (from the day it was bought) and second, because it had the most stupid attachment of USB cable imaginable where getting the cable to fit was a ridiculous fiddly exercise since the female plug was buried in a deep recess. In addition it could not be placed in its custom made holder without another stupidly designed clip that needed two hands and a lot of fiddling!

OK - now a comparison of the two:

On the + side:
1. Clips in very easily
2. Easy to connect USB
3. Speaks street names unlike the TomTom
4. Has pictures of complex junctions pop up
5. Easy to set detour when required
6. Faster connection to satellites

On the - side:
1. Not as accurate as the TomTom - sometimes idiosyncratic and gets confused
2. Misses some roads completely
3. Less info on screen - e.g. Does not give a countdown time to arrival (like the TomTom)
4. Intrusive ding ding ding if even a fraction over speed limit
5. Unnecessary separated listing of Wales, Scotland, England locations

On balance I'm happy with the purchase but Garmin maps are simply not as good as TomTom maps and that might swing your choice of purchase if TomTom have woken up to the appalling physical design of their SatNav and changed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy classic watch, 21 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Really clear perfect size watch. Not sure why some say it's too small unless they want an aviator/diver/astronaut's chronograph to make the tea and predict the future! I wanted a watch that looked good, was comfortable to wear, that was uncluttered, and wasn't a lump of metal on my arm that chimed on the hour (or for that matter told me the date since this breaks style with the crisp Swiss Railway clock design). The silver chain-mail strap is strong, great looking and easy to adjust to most sizes. I suggest that if you really do have an exceptionally thin or very large wrist girth that you unwrap the parcel carefully, try the watch out and return it to Amazon if it doesn't fit. Very few will find this necessary to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 27" high quality best value 2nd screen for iMac, 11 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A brilliant monitor - a perfect match for 27" iMac 2560x1400 screen and great value compared to competition. Ignore the comments about the stand.... It's perfectly up to the job and certainly doesn't "wobble".

This is a great hi-res 2560x1400 monitor - It works perfectly with a Mac despite review below that made me rather nervous.... Ignore the comment below which states:

Quote: "3.0 out of 5 stars Great promise, if only it worked properly on Mac. I'm running MacOS 10.9.2 and this display won't go above 1920x1080 (it's supposed to be 2560x1440 which is 78% more pixels on screen). Apple refer me to AOC, and AOC's website refers me to Apple... a nice loop. I'm sticking with it for now and will return it if I can't get it resolved in my cooling off period, for now be warned."

I emailed the reviewer and he sent his back and bought a very much more expensive monitor instead. Pity he didn't do his research....

YOU DO NEED the following cable (not supplied) - available from Amazon for only about £6 - to get the full resolution:

Mini DisplayPort (male) to DisplayPort (male) adaptor cable....(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002XVYZ82/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Really simple plug and play - but without this extra cable you will be stuck with 1920x1080.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works a treat, 9 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Now 2 floors away from router and on the net due to this clever little device. Until today that would have been impossible. The WS322 is a little fiddly to set up not least because it does much more than one thing - but worth the effort since it is working really well boosting broadband WiFi impressively to distant points in the house. It also looks much better than the clunky alternatives.

Very good value compared to the very overpriced alternatives. Their odd shape is a delight and in no way interferes with their usefulness or their practical use. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works just fine, 2 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Basic lightweight thermometer marked up for perfect frothy milk. Absolutely essential for making lattes. Be careful not to immerse it in water. Also odd in this day and age that Fahrenheit is much more prominent than Centigrade but this hardly matters since all you are doing to getting the milk to that red zone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great little jug, 2 May 2014

In my opinion too small for milk frothing. You need space to allow the milk to froth and this is just not the right size. I use the 660ml one for that. I use this for delivering the espresso into - in a bean to cup coffee machine - and for that it is perfect. Also looks good!
