5.0 out of 5 stars At last, the BBC Miss Marple series on Blu-ray., 12 Nov. 2014
The picture quality is excellent. The BBC has done a wonderful job in restoring the Miss Marple series. It's amazing they got such great quality from 16 mm film. Miss Marple never looked so good. An outstanding release and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Production, 8 Dec. 2012
This is a wonderful production, so good you forget it's in concert and not fully staged. A lot of fluidity is brought to the stage by the use of rolling benches. It's extremely well directed and the cast is uniformly brilliant. The orchestra sounds sublime. I saw the original production of Company in 1970 and this new production equals it in every way. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doris is Back and How Much We've Missed Her, 5 Sept. 2011
This review is from: My Heart (Audio CD)
Listening to this album made me wish so much that Doris hadn't stopped recording in 1967; there could have been so many wonderful albums in the intervening years. However, Doris returned to the recording studio in 1986 and finally these tracks have been released. This new album is just superb and it was worth the wait. Doris' vocals are sublime and her voice retains that intimacy that just draws the listener in. The re-mastering has been done very well and Doris' voice is front and foremost. The tracks have a fresh feel about them. It's a pity Doris didn't record "Happy Endings" as Terry wrote it for her and it was perfect for her. Though her introduction is touching and sincere. I cannot recommend this recording highly enough. I hope we will see further releases from her vaults and maybe just maybe she could be persuaded to record again. Doris Day is back and all's right with the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Recording, 14 Jun. 2011
Barbara Cook is a wonder of the modern world. Her vocals are just superb on this album on every number, especially the haunting "I've Got You Under My Skin". She brings new meaning to the song. She has said that Michael Feinstein is one of about three people she feels totally at home with on stage. It shows. Micheal Feinstein is fantastic, he always has something new and different to share with us and this CD is no exception. Thank God these two amazingly talented people are sharing their magic with us. Long may the both continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious Sound, Picture and Film. Stunning, 10 Nov. 2010
The film looks just beautiful, this Blu-ray edition is simply the best the film has ever looked on disc. For the Blu-ray the makers went back to the original negative, which was too damaged to use previously, using new restoration techniques. The detail in the picture is just amazing, it's a whole new experience. The sound restoration is remarkable, it's deep and rich and full. Fox have really gone to town with the extras not only do we get all the extras from previous editions but a host of new and rare items to make an astonishing collection. This is one of the best Blu-ray editions yet of any film.
The Sound of Music has always been a superlative film. Every aspect of the film works. The locations, the music, the script the direction and the acting all came together at just the right time to create this film. The jewel in the crown is Julie Andrews, one of the greatest musical performances ever.
A magnificent film presented in a breathtaking edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyce Grenfell's 100th Birthday Year, 8 Nov. 2010
Joyce would have been 100 this year, born 10th February, 1910. I've seen nothing being done to mark this important event.
As a tribute to Joyce treat yourself to this DVD collection. It's a superb collection that I cannot recommend highly enough. It presents a fine selection of her monologues and songs, including some of the more serious ones like "First Flight" which is a finely observed and wise portrait of a mother visiting her son in America. Joyce was a unique person. Maureen Lipman said one of the things she loved about playing Joyce was that as she was such a positive person she made her feel positive too. It's something that shines through all her work, she had a quality about her that made people feel better. A treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Book, 8 Nov. 2009
This is an excellent autobiography. Extremely well writen; you can hear Julie's voice throughout it. She paints a wonderfully evocative picture of her early years. It is full of interesting details about an extrodianry life. Julie confides in her readers and reveals heartbreaking events, that have never before been told, without self pity. An extraordinary book that I highly recommend.
