The third book in the Bruno series did not let me down. Yet another compulsive page turner which brought back many memories of my various visits to Cantebury. Within two minutes of finishing the book, today I had already purchased the next instalment !

3.0 out of 5 stars Sone innocent fun !, 26 April 2014

Was not quite sure what to expect, this being my first Hawker of the Yard novel.

But it was an enjoyable, albeit very quick read, in which Hawker emulates his hero Sherlock Holmes to discover the real author of the crime.

In this second book of the series, the erudite Italian spy Bruno finds himself caught up in more murder, mystery and intrigue. I finished the book in only a few sessions as the plot turned in to a page-turner. Looking forward to starting the third book now. A compelling read !

If you like the CJ Samson (Shardlake) books then you will like Heresy. A good plot full of intrigue and mystery, with Bruno the Italian being recruited in to Spymaster Walsingham's intelligence service. Most enjoyable.

A promising idea, but the events unfolded in a unrealistic manner and the text was let down by such basic errors as spelling "Colombian" with a "u". Felt obliged to read it to the end, if only to satisfy my curiosity about the final outcome.

As a regular visitor to Haiti I was somewhat remiss in not reading this famous Graham Greene novel earlier. But once I started it I could not put it down. I later attended a lecture by a close companion and traveling partner of Greene's, who provided a fascinating insight in to their journey along the Dominican Republic/Haiti border and which inspired Greene to write this book. Read it, and you won't be disappointed!

Bought this not because I'm a diver but simply because it looks great. Really smart sporty looking timepiece, lightweight yet tough. It gets noticed, and I've received lots of positive comments from friends. Highly recommended.

For anyone with an interest, like me, in things Inca this is a compelling read. Neatly describing the history of the Spanish conquest and the Inca resistance, the author goes on to explain the sometimes murky modern day discoveries of lost Inca cities. For me the book read at times more like an adventure story than a historical account.

Thoroughly enjoyable, I'd highly recommend this book to Inca aficionados and novices alike.

Vintage Graham Greene. Two down, many more wonderful books to come. Wonder which one I'll choose next...? Can't wait to find out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant description of the conquest of Mexico!, 23 Jun 2013

This review is from: Aztec (Kindle Edition)
One of the keynote events in history, the conquest of the Triple Alliance dominated by the Mexica (later known as the Aztecs) is known by many but fully understood by few. This fictional account (based on fact) is a compelling read and puts the reader right in the thick of the action as it unfolds. If you're the least bit interested in the Spanish conquest of Mexico I highly commend this book to you.
