5.0 out of 5 stars A British Spy Classic., 8 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A cross between Tinker,Tailor,Soldier,Spy & James Bond. The Ipcress File deserves it's status as a British classic. With a young & very cool Michael Caine in the lead role. Good Blu-Ray at attractive price.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest American films of the 70s, 23 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not quite sure why it's a three disc release. The third disc has little on it & the content could have easily been put on one of the other discs. Apart from this a stunning Blu-Ray / DVD release of a wonderful masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greenaway's Masterpiece, 28 Mar 2014
I my opinion this is Greenaway's best film. It has all of his style without the excess of his later films. It is also Brian Dennehy finest hour. I wish Greenaway hadn't turned his back on a type of intelligent filmmaking that once engaged his audience. Now that audience has all but deserted him. For me The Cook, The Thief was his last great film (Gambon is excellent). From that moment on there was only ever gratuitous excess. Along with La Dolce Vita & The Great Beauty this is one of the finest films set in Rome. A film where the city itself is the real star.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the 3 films, 24 Feb 2014
This review is from: Before Midnight [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
In the first Before film Jesse & Celine have just met & spend the next 18 hours together. They get to know each other a little before going their separate ways - The second film is set nine years later where they meet up again - What makes the third film different is that in the first two we the audience are in the same situation as Jesse & Celine - We know as much about Jesse As Celine does & as much about Celine as Jesse does, but in Midnight these two characters have gone off & spent the past nine years together & we have not been there to witness any of it - There relationship is no longer the whirlwind it once was but is now stuck in the realities of life - They now have a real history together & it shows in the performances -

5.0 out of 5 stars A genuine one off -, 2 Nov 2013
It's hard to believe that almost 15 years have past since TBWP graced the big screen - What makes this film utterly unique is that we will never see it's kind again - It's hard now to remember just how big the buzz surrounding this film was - An extremely low budget film that grossed a hollywood sized profit due mainly to the internet buzz surrounding it - A film made pre YouTube, many believing at the time to actually contain real found footage only helped fuel speculation surrounding the film - The internet now being a platform for every conspiracy under the sun only adds to this films unique place in time - It will always remain an important independent horror film thought it's initial impact may have dwindled somewhat over the past decade -

5.0 out of 5 stars Hammer's finest hour -, 24 Aug 2013
Even with some poor special effects (Mainly the Spider that keeps changing size) TDRO is without a doubt the best HH film ever made - I love Horror and am fond of many Hammer films mainly in a nostalgic way but not with TDRO - It totally stands up on it's own - This film fits comfortably into the top ten greatest British horror films of all time and doesn't look out of place among the best horror films ever - Along with "The Wicker Man" this is Christopher Lee's finest hour - This film is full of surprise most other formulaic Hammer films lack - TDRO is a masterpiece -

3.0 out of 5 stars Over the top cop show -, 21 Aug 2013
I have to admit that Luther was really entertaining but the story lines are so over the top and far fetched - The whole idea of a lone cop gone rogue in the modern day MET is just ludicrous - What ever happened to police procedure & team work - He acts more like a superhero than a real detective - Luther would be out on his ear so fast his feet wouldn't touch the ground if he carried on like this in the real world - One must disengage brain first in order to appreciate it for what it is - An entertaining but somewhat lacking cop show - Idris Elba is it's one saving grace -

An extended cut of a film that is already far too long - Peter Jackson has become a boring self indulgent film maker -

5.0 out of 5 stars - Spoilers -, 11 Jun 2013
What I found most interesting during this film was how little the US government seemed to care about catching Bin-Laden - The CIA who were out in the field seemed very few in numbers - When they did find him it seemed more like good luck than any sort of strategy + it took over 3 months for them to do anything even when they suspected it could be him - I never believed for one minute the US government had any real interest in catching Bin-Laden and that their involvement in the middle east was for very different reasons - Apart from a small bunch of dedicated people who tried endlessly to catch him neither the Bush or Obama administration really seemed to give a damn - Though Obama took all the glory when they did -
This film throws up far more questions than it could possibly ask - It is very long but never anything less than gripping -

5.0 out of 5 stars Misunderstood masterpiece -, 3 Mar 2013
Dominik creates a world were gangsters cry when beaten and assassins would rather keep their distance avoiding any emotional involvement - This is a far cry form the gangsters films of Tarantino and in my opinion that's a good thing - This is a film rooted in the real world where actions have real consequences for those who don't play by the rules - A cynical look at how America has been turned from a once promising democracy into what Pit calls a business - Set around the time of the financial crisis and Obama's first election it uses the metaphor of corporate corruption to highlight what must be done to restore order to the system - Like Dominik's last film "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" many will find it too slow - For anyone looking for a smart gritty and realistic portrait of life lived on the fringes this is a truly rewarding watch - definitely one of my top ten of 2012 -
