Ravishingly beautiful music and scenery, 3 Dec 2013
There's such good value on this DVD - 40 tracks of the finest quality from about 25 individuals and ensemble - these musicians are at the top of their profession and form. It is a wonderfully scenic location at Loch Lomond and the musicians are obviously having a great time, basking in respect for each other. The overall effect is alternately heartbreaking and exhilarating as they work their way through heritage classics and new songs. This series is particularly strong on individuals - the revered Mary Chapin Carpenter, Teddy son of Richard Thompson, and new to me singer Aoife O'Donovan. They are all great - the haunting flute and pipes of Michael McGoldrick resonate throughout and helps keep a common Celtic thread through the tracks. This for me is the best produced, best sounding traditional music - can't wait for the next one!
