Should have been Book of the Year....sadly, it's not!, 27 Mar 2012
We chose this for our Book Club choice, having read details of its release. The subject matter is topical, and we thought we were in for a treat. Sadly, we were very disappointed. Of course, from a humanitarian point of view, we very much care about the plight of young Afghans, but the writer did nothing in the narrative to encourage our caring. The writing is stilted and flat; short sentences in prose have their place, but the book is riddled with abrupt, stumpy sentences, stabbing the reader's flow and enjoyment of what should have been a deeply engaging tale. We struggled to keep our interest in it, the narrative was so sadly lacking in engagement. There are phrases that take the reader miles away from the plight of the boys, i.e. "...like tumbling Lottery balls.." Oh dear, sorry to be so negative for the writer's first novel; the idea of the book was a good one, but it does not live up to a reader's expectation. The subject matter, better handled, should have produced a Book of the Year...for us, it was Bore of the Year. Hinterland

Heavenly Blue!, 26 April 2009
If you don't own this album, you're missing one of the most beautiful, sublime, recordings for many a year. Hauntingly melodic, rich orchestration and heavenly voices. Peaceful, spiritual, soothing, calming. Go get it in your collection, you will play it over, and over, and over....wonderful!

A Wonderful Book!, 26 April 2009
No doubt about it, this was one of history's great love affairs. The letters give the reader an intimate invitation to share the deep affection between "Winston" and his beloved "Clementine". Winston's writings are, as ever, witty and, at the same time, profound. History unfolding between two well-suited souls. Thoroughly recommended.

Don't Be Disappointed!, 20 April 2009
For anyone disappointed about the unavailability of this beautiful album, it is possible to obtain a copy via Patrick Hawes' new website. Those of us who have come to love his inspired music, wish him every success with the latest addition new album, "Song of Songs".

Soulful Russia, 3 Jun 2007
This recording is exquisite. It is said in the notes that the recording engineers were moved to tears by the beauty of the voices....so will you be. It is atmospheric and haunting...and has been listened to many, many times...it takes you to a wonderful (spiritual) place that you never want to leave! I have ordered copies for friends who are similarly awe struck. Rachmaninov and less well-known composers work is given five star treatment...Highly, highly recommended. Just beautiful!

White Eagle student, 29 Mar 2007
This is an interesting book, coming not by chance (and in a spiritual sense, nothing ever does!), at a time when the male-female balance of the Universal Spirit (or God), can be acknowledged as a "Father/Mother God". The book contains some lovely examples of White Eagle's teachings, and may lead the reader to study his words in more depth. He has been my spiritual tacher (along with Paramahansa Yogananda) for many years and explains spirituality and our 'Godliness' in a loving and simple way.

Divine Solace, 28 Jan 2007
Having studied world religions, Yogananda's essays (more like letters of guidance from a beloved brother)were discovered and found to be deeply inspiring, comforting, loving, non-judgmental, and one of very few tomes worthy of re-reading. Have since read most of his published works, and he is a gentle teacher,(as is White Eagle), whose wise words can be applied to daily life...making one's inner and outer world, a happier place. Thorougly recommended.
