Purists will doubtless prefer "authentic" performances on "period" instruments, but there is plenty of stylish and committed playing in these cds. I have not listened to all 33 yet, but through half-decent headphones, there is clarity and articulation - real bounce!- in every section of the orchestra. The use of single-desk or even solo strings in certain places (minuets and trios, soft sections of slow movements) reinforces these qualities. The recording is good, as well: warm (but not in a lush, 19th century sense) and spontaneous enough to give a live feel. I am looking forward to longer nights so that I can become better acquainted with Papa H.
