2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great, 4 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I tried these on and found them pretty flimsy; good wrist pads should be strong enough that they don't bend, these ones were quite bendy...
The elbow pads were too big for me (I know we're all different sizes but they should fit a range) so I could not fasten them.
The knee pads were all right but the inside was quite flat so on my knee they wobbled quite a bit; my worry was if I fell over would they just move out the way and leave my knee exposed...
I will be returning these

Virgil Exner: Visioneer - The Official Biography of Virgil M. Exner, Designer Extraordinaire
Virgil Exner: Visioneer - The Official Biography of Virgil M. Exner, Designer Extraordinaire
by Peter Grist
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Triumph of the fin, 31 Dec. 2013
Few auto stylists get to change the course of car design once in their lives. Exner did it twice, with the groundbreaking post war Studebakers which set the template for cars of the early Fifties, and with his dramatically finned offerings for Chrysler later that decade. This is a thoughtful book that rises above mere enthusiastic appreciation. The author gives us a powerful insight into just how precarious an auto stylist's life can be at the mercy of his bosses. Exner was clearly a much loved and charming man, almost too good for the rough and tumble of Detroit at its most arrogant. Strongly recommended for all students of auto history.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine book about a fine car, 14 Sept. 2010
This book is strictly for the enthusiast - but in a good way. Fantastic technical detail but also some good anecdotes from participants the author has interviewed. The result is greater than the sum of its parts - offering those with a wider interest in industrial history a fascinating insight into a well-run and profitable business in the 1950s when the British car industry was at its height. 3.0 out of 5 stars Intense thriller, 30 April 2010
This review is from: Reprisal (Paperback)
This book has been around a while. It's a classic domestic thriller. No police, no procedure, but well drawn characters and a terrible sense of foreboding. Worth tracking down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definnitive account of El Alamein, 30 April 2010
This review is from: Alamein (Hardcover)
This account of the events leading up to the Battle of El Alamein, and the battle itself is hard to better. As the author says, the struggle was more like an engagement at sea, with no landmarks, just the vast featureless desert. He is very even handed about the key characters, particularly Monty who other historians have sought to criticise or ridicule. The writing is also clear and unaffected - great for the informed enthusiast and those coming to this incredible tale for the first time.Just Watch Me Perfect Night

Richard Dimbleby
Richard Dimbleby
by Jonathan Dimbleby
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for anyone interested in the history of TV, 1 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Richard Dimbleby (Hardcover)
Richard Dimbleby was a household name in the 1950s and 60s. He was the face of the BBC's Panorama, and was for many years the first choice for commentator at major state occasions. What isn't so well known is that he practically invented Current Affairs as we know it - a separate entity somewhere between News and Documentary. Written by the younger of his two broadcaster sons, this is a lively entertaining and extremely insightful biography.Just Watch Me

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple classic toaster, 29 Nov. 2009
This was the answer to our long quest for a simple, classic shaped toaster that didn't have pointless extra features no one used. It does the job fine. The only disappointment is the toast doesn't come up proud of the slots so we have to forage for them with tongs.Just Watch MePerfect Night

The Associates: Four Capitalists Who Created California (Enterprise)
The Associates: Four Capitalists Who Created California (Enterprise)
by Richard Rayner
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars California history that reads like a thriller, 8 Oct. 2009
Rayner brings his gifts as a novelist to bear on this marvellously terse non fiction account of the men who invented California. The preposterously ambitious building of the transcontinental railroad is beautifully rendered as well as the scheming magnates behind it. A great compelling read. Perfect Night Just Watch Me
