If you are starting out with the Arduino this is a good book. Decent intro to the system and some good projects.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but very difficult, 10 Oct. 2013

OK but:
Downloaded manual is very badly translated i.e. "determine the active and passive buzzer multimeter resistance profile Rxl file test: use a black pen touch buzzer's pin "+", red pen touch in the other pin back and forth, If you feel a click, cracking sound and resistance is only 8Ω
(Or 16Ω) which is a passive buzzer; continuing sound can issue, and the resistance is more than hundreds of Europe that is active buzzer. Active buzzer directly connected to the rated power (indicate on the new buzzer's label) can be continuous sound; rather passive buzzer and electromagnetic speaker needs to be connected to the audio output circuit can vocalization."

Downloaded manual includes some interesting projects, unfortunately not using hardware supplied.

Some of the hardware i.e. 3 colour RGB and the prototype shield has no documentation at all!

Having said that, still using it and still enjoying it but this is not what I would call a starter kit. However I have nearly 40 years in IT.

As I have worked my way through this I have more problems:

The 8x8 LCD display is unusable, when placed on the breadboard it covers all the connection pins making it impossible to connect to anything, the only way to use this would be to buy some female to male breadboard pins.

The LCD display has no usable pins, would have to have a header soldered on before it could be connected to anything.

There is no info at all on the flame sensor, it is impossible to decipher what it is supposed to do.

Definitely does not live up to it's claims as a starter kit, or the documentation promised.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap card reader which does what it says on the tin., 11 Sept. 2013

What I expected, sturdy enough when mounted and it works. Only complaint is the cable to the USB header could be a bit longer, it just reached but not long enough to route the cable properly.
