All but one track are original songs written by band members. This is definitely my favourite album of theirs as it has a wealth of beautifully written songs with good melodies and strong poetic lyrics. Having heard almost all of their previous material ( which is brilliant of course) this album is a welcome change. If you are fans you will not be disappointed and if you are new to Oysterband I recommend this album which I think is ,technically and musically their best. If you like good strong lyrics and melodies both up-tempo and ballad you will love this album.

I read some not too good reviews of this so I had to put this in the mix. As a fan of longstanding I think this album rates as one of the best. I have all the Strawbs albums and at the moment this is my favourite. Great re-working of the title track which first appeared on the Dave Cousins solo album. Good to hear collaboration with Mary Hopkin. Some great songs in the Cousins "classic" vein (such as Oh So Sleepy, There will Come A Day, and The Plain). Nice reworking of Lay Down as well. Good to see former Strawbs members Richard Hudson and Blue Weaver appearing on some tracks and what about the bonus track "the King" another Cousins classic but performed by the "supergroup" which I think of as Steeleye Strawb! (for fans of Steeleye Span and I am one I refer to the appearance on this track of Maddy Prior and Rick kemp). All in all despite some people slating this album I recommend it although I have to say that as a staunch fan Dave Cousins does very little wrong in my eyes!

This is their first studio album since Landmarks (1997/8) so it was with a little trepidation that I bought it but should have known better! The quality songwriting and musicianship is still there and the haunting vocals are as good as ever. It has been a long time coming but I think some of their best work, ever, is on this album.Just listen to "Brave Enough" and "Setanta" for proof that Clannad are back to their best but the whole album is inspired and there is not a bad nor a mediocre track on it. For anyone who has not heard Clannad before buy this album and then buy the back catalogue as well. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic trip to the sixties, 25 Oct 2013

Bought this album on vinyl when first released and still think it is the best album made by the Bee Gees! There is some Beatles influence (In My Own Time has echoes of George Harrison's Taxman) but still original sounds and many of their best songs are on this album. had to get it on CD because managed to scratch two tracks on my vinyl copy. If there are people who only know the Bee Gees' later stuff then try this album it is sixties music at its best.

Excellent performances with good songs and very much up to the standard I expect from such accomplished musicians.
If you only know of Paul Jones through his blues radio programme you could do worse than buy this CD! Manfred Mann it ain't!

Hadn't heard much of Altan but saw the singer on Transatlantic Sessions so took the plunge and glad I did. This Album has echoes of the likes of The Bothy Band and De Dannaan mixed with the haunting themes we associate with Clannad. A truly remarkable fusion with excellent vocals and great instrumental work.

There is life after Donnie Munro! Wasn't totally convinced with "Angels" although I liked it but all fears were dissipated with the very first track "Book of Golden Stories" and thereafter each track was just as inspiring! The MacDonald song writing is still strong, Bruce Guthro is a good replacement for Donnie and this album has all the old Runrig trademarks with distinctive drum sound, pounding rhythms, "anthemic" themes, strong vocals, bagpipes and great guitar work. What more needs to be said other than to any other unconvinced fans out there BUY THIS you will not regret it

Although "Forever Changes" probably rates as their best album this contains my all time favourite Love track - "The Castle" (which I first heard when it was used as the theme to the first BBC "Holiday Programme" way back when!) but there are many other classic tracks as well.

Takes me back to the carefree days of the early sixties. You can't help moving to the stomping beat. They were much better musicians than a lot of people gave them credit for.
