1.0 out of 5 stars manufacturer makes it very hard to start using it, 2 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
so it arrived and its very pretty. first, you try to update. download the express software and go ahead. well, if you're in portugal, it insists you must speak to it in portuguese. fine. i work it out and download. but the updates dont install. there is no clue as to why. ok, i connect from an UK operating system via UK-based proxy. this time program speaks to me in english and installs without a hitch. however, once i try to use it, it turns out nuvi is unable to find my location. it is sure i am in ovenden. i try to contact customer support. i call the portuguese number, no go. i call the uk number - "at the moment it is not possible to establish connection". i try to send an email. "must register product using express". fine, i register product. i login. i start typing message. it tells me to identify which registered device this is about. it turns out none are registered. i go back into express to repeat registration and cant find the link / its disappeared. fine, i write a message about nuvi 3597 - without indicting it is registered. i get a message back saying thank you, dedicated product specialist will contact me in 3 business days. today is january 2. so i figure they will contact me on jan 9 at the earliest. it might be faster to return this and go buy a different gps.

1.0 out of 5 stars unexpected disappointment from a major brand, 12 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been happily sleeping in Colemans all my life so when I saw this price, I jumped at it. I was very disappointed to see that the stuffing of the sleeping bag comes out through the lining -- not even in use, but -- so to speak -- factory pre-made: I opened the package and found the sleeping bag covered with longish white cotton-like threads. I am not sure whether this product is indicative of a general decline in Coleman quality, or is a one off fluke -- in the past, my Colemans have lasted a decade or more, so it has been some time since I bought one.

Buenos Aires: A Cultural and Literary History (Cities of the Imagination): A Cultural and Literary History (Cities of the Imagination)
Buenos Aires: A Cultural and Literary History (Cities of the Imagination): A Cultural and Literary History (Cities of the Imagination)
by Jason Wilson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.89

2.0 out of 5 stars Slovenly, 17 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book is preceded by one of the most hauntingly beautiful introductions I have ever read by Alberto Manguel -- it's three pages are easily worth the price of the book. The book itself is pretty awful, though: Wilson has a slovenly way of writing, thoughts and sentences appear strung together without any apparent order. After they have washed over you, you are left with the distinct impression that you have learned nothing. Perhaps you can make any sense out of the 10 page summary of the history of the city, I could not -- I am left with no clue at all as to what constituted the nature of the struggle between the city and the country, or the Radicals and the Peronistas. The lengthy description of the character of the porteno (the typical city resident) contains very many literary quotations but does not seem to add up to any coherent picture (it seems that the portenos are garrulous, cordial, reserved, and cool?). A paragraph telling you how nasty, smelly, noisy and uncomfortable a walk through Buenos Aires might be ends with the sentence that "still, BA is very much a walking city." There are numerous puzzling interjections, such as that "Gombrowicz hailed from very minor aristocracy" (which is, incidentally, strictly speaking, not true) to introduce a quotation about the great number of good looking people one can observe in Buenos Aires. (Why not mention his shoe size while we're at it?)

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile book, 17 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you can deal with the vernacular style and an occasional minor mistake (Dubno and Dubinka transposed on one occasion), the book is a good biography. Unlike other books on Kosciuszko, which tend to focus more either on his American career or on his Polish career, this book balances both quite well. Kosciuszko's significant contribution to American War of Independence is well presented. An interesting aspect of the story is the contrast between the American War of Independence and the Polish wars of 1792-1794 explaining well why Poles failed where Americans succeeded: Americans were up against relatively small British armies (1500-7000 men) while Russia alone invaded Poland in 1794 with an army of 94,000.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised, 27 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ordered this with free shipping to Southern Europe -- an incredible deal, at half price what I would pay to buy it from local retailers, who, incidentally, did not stock the model anyway.

All comments are true: is a little noisy; it does curl 80 g paper a little bit (I leave my print outs under a stack of books overnight which solves most of the problem); it prints fast and the duplex functions works wonderfully; quality of print is very good.

The starter toner prints about 300 pages and you start getting the "out of toner" message about 150 pages before it runs out; then it just stops. Other printers I have had would continue to print -- not very well, but continue never the less; this one just won't budge -- so make sure you have spare toner on hand.

Highly recommended if you use it the way I do -- which is print out my ebooks and correspondence because I can't stand reading on screen -- cheap and fast print is more important than quality -- I don't mind the spot of curling -- if you print for business and presentation, you may not like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game, too bad about the new cards, 27 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I used to own the earlier edition of this game which had very pretty cards; they were also longer and narrower -- which made it much easier to hold 18 cards or so. The new cards are just... -- well, not as pretty as the old ones. A little disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not especially great, 27 Mar 2012

I ordered it in pink -- neither the color nor the texture were especially nice. You can do better in a Chinese shop for 6 pounds. I ended up returning it.

It's not doing its supposed job: it does not get hot -- merely lukewarm at best. I returned it.
