Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really do NOT choose to leave a review. And now they even tell me how many words this non-review should comprise. Bonkers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little publication, with recipes you can use today, 20 Sept. 2011
Have tried a number of the recipes from this little volume - though alas there are things which in these sniffy PC days one can no longer get easily - and I found it quite poignant to think that many of my forebears must have cooked them too - maybe from a oopy of this very same book.

Excellently produced too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant., 20 Sept. 2011
Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Did I say Brilliant? I meant to say brilliant! Oh OK I am biased - I grew up on a diet of these. But nearly 50 years later, it's like coming home. Happy memories evoked by these wonderful cartoons, Ren & Stimpy, Transformers, all that manga stuff, eat your hears out. Unashamedly entertaining and innocent, no navel-gazing, no sly adult innuendo/ Brilliant. Oh sorry, I already said that!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasia - but not really for today's kids, 20 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Fantasia - [DVD] [1940] (DVD)
Had only ever seen the cartoon bits when I was a kid (how long ago was that!) during Christmas Disney programmes on the telly. So I bought this, this summer, for some children aged 6 and 4 - but the Stokowski "introductions" connecting the cartoon sections were definitely over-long and - sorry Mr S - a bit pompous, even for me, so in my humble opinion the thing as a whole has not aged well. But the cartoon sections are still tiptop. The kids, on the other hand, were far more impressed by DVDs of Tom and Jerry!

5.0 out of 5 stars 200 Heroes - a must for any naval historian, 21 Mar. 2009
Thoroughly well researched and a mine of useful and interesting information. Lots of portraits too. Good index. Gives you a better feel for the period than any amount of fiction could. I recommend it wholeheartedly for anyone with a sailor in their family tree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and intelligent, 24 Feb. 2009
I have been interested in the Irish diaspora for a few years now, and was concerned that this book might be either shallow or sensational. I need not have worried. It is a very well researched work. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in Irish history, particularly if that interest spills over into France.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nope siree!, 19 Dec. 2008
Couldn't get into it. If you like films such as Silverado, and all these modern-day takes on the cowboy, then this may be for you. Nice parts for the Native American. Too slow, too much flashing back & forth in time for my taste, though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dark Knight? Dark Kno-kno!, 17 Dec. 2008
Bought the DVD, found it a BIG mistake. Batman now has all the back up of a James Bond, with mission and a Q-type gadget man, plus chirpy Cockney butler (Heavens! Poor Michael Caine! Doesn't he get any proper roles offered him any more?). Eye candy. Stunts. BUT!

No Gotham city brooding mystique. No outrageous camp. Too much broad daylight. Christian Bale does not have the kissable lips or vulnerability of any of the previous Batmen. Heath Ledger is OK, but not enough to carry this on his own. My advice? Borrow it!!
