Delphi Complete Works of Emile Zola (Illustrated)
Delphi Complete Works of Emile Zola (Illustrated)
Price: £1.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, 2 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great, I was able to clear quite a few books from my overfilled shelves and acquire a lot more that I've never read all for £1.99. I've been wanting to read the complete Rougon-Macquart books for years but many are unavailable in print in English.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK page-turner, 2 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A decent page-turner but the plot is ludicrous. The initial premise sounds intriguing, a Big Brother style TY series, only the men are all criminals, but any interest the author had in developing this soon vanishes and we're into a fairly standard kidnap/serial killer suspense thriller. Good for a summer holiday read but not a book I can ever imagine rereading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff - essential purchase, 2 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With the I'll Remember 4CD box set and now this, Taste are finally getting the treatment they deserve. All we now need is the complete Montreux concert (the LIve Taste LP) hopefully with "I Feel So Good" in one piece. This Isle of WIght CD is double the length of the original LP although I'm not sure that it covers the complete set. It's very noticeable from this that Taste really were a proper band rather than just Rory Gallagher with backing musicians, both McCracken and Wilson are prominent throughout and John Wilson's drumming in particular is quite distinctive. An essential if belated release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation, it's hard work getting at the CDs though!, 7 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great compilation, and good to hear some of the lesser-known tracks, there are a few gems here I'd completely forgotten about. At the price you can't lose. My one gripe is with the packaging, even with the instructions I had a terrible job getting the CDs out, and I broke one of the little plastic springs almost immediately. I'll probably end up keeping the CDs separately as I'm liable to snap one of them getting them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars For fans only, but if you're a fan you'll love it, 7 July 2015

Mountain are an acquired taste and I can understand people (my wife!) thinking it's awful. However if you like heavy blues-rock, this is one of the best of the bootleg series, the sound quality is excellent and there is a great version of Robert Johnson's "Hellhound on my Trail" which I don't think appears on any other Mountain recordings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great early Fahey, 7 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent music, just a few duff tracks but over 90% of the 5 discs is brilliant. The sound quality is great too, so if you like the Blind Joe Death era LPs this is a must-buy . The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is the package. I've only had this a couple of weeks and the outer box is already coming apart. I don't want to use sellotape to stick it together so I've taken out the CDs and left the box wedged in the shelving so that it doesn't come apart any further.

William Wilberforce: A biography
William Wilberforce: A biography
by Stephen Tomkins
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction, 12 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a well-written brief biography of the great man. It's a very easy read and a good introduction. Some aspects are covered quite quickly but then it is one-third of the length of the William Hague book for example. It's let down by some basic general knowledge errors however - e.g. Jamaica was not seized from the Dutch, the Prussians did not take part in the battle of Austerlitz. And one minor gripe, the use of fashionable phrases such as "regime change" and "spin". Pitt was aiming to restore the French monarchy, why not say so instead of saying he was aiming for "regime change"?

5.0 out of 5 stars More powerpop than punk but still great, 6 Jan. 2015

This review is from: Huntingtons (Audio CD)
Compared to earlier releases there is more power pop and less punk but the songs are as catchy as ever. There's also a nice acoustic version of "Postcard" hidden at the end of the CD - don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant music from an underrated group, 13 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Roots Reggae (Audio CD)
Six late 60s/early 70s albums from a criminally underrated band. It's great throughout - I particularly love the replica sleeves, which like the music inside changes steadily over the years, while still being recognizably the same group. Yes, the music on the 6 CDs could have fitted onto 3 CDs with space to spare, but I prefer to play the albums as albums and it's a much better package than a 3-CD jewel case would have been.

The Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Adventures (Mammoth Books)
The Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Adventures (Mammoth Books)
by Mike Ashley
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Good light read, 13 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A bit patchy as you'd expect with so many stories from so many different writers, but overall it's a good read. All of the writers do a reasonable imitation of the "Watson style", and although some of the plots seem rather contrived at times, there are others where I was really anxious to reach the denouement. So a good buy as long as you're not expecting anything more than an enjoyable untaxing read.
