Why does a great traditional singer turn herself into an ordinary singer-songwriter. Sorry Karan but a songwriter you are not. After the stunning Album with John Doyle this is a real let down.

4.0 out of 5 stars a few warnings, 23 April 2013

Whilst this is about the cheapest Django compilation on offer, it is not the very best. A large number of the recordings feature Django playing electric guitar in the post war years, and whilst it is interesting to hear his reworkings of his classic tunes, Nuages, Manoir De Mes Reves, Daphne, Djangology and so on, these are by no means the definitive versions. There are in fact precious few tracks from the Reinhardt/Grappelli classic years.
Another sour note is that the transfer quality, particularly when it comes from Sony, is not the best.
Overall though,an eight CD box set of Django at this price is still an almost essential acquisition, but for the completist, and not as a casual introduction to his music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 22 April 2012
This review is from: All The Way Home (Audio CD)
It has taken a long time for Cathy to come up with a solo project, and it has ben well worth the wait. For years an outstanding member of Dervish, personality, voice, the lot this Album is quite outstanding. Great, songs, singing and even two wonderful instrumental compositions from Cathy, one of which The River Field Waltz is a real beauty. From start to finish this is stunning. The sort of recording I play over and over without tiring. More of these please, but don't leave Dervish. You need each other!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars A most disappointing effort, 24 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not really worth the wait. The book starts well with Doc's early life, but seems to end abruptly as there is almost no mention at all of his later years. Either the author was ender pressure to get his effort published or he ran out of ideas. Wait for a better biography that surely will come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chunk of history, 1 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A remarkable find. Unseen photographs and unheard live recordings of the young Elvis. Churlish to be critical of recording quality. The Louisiana Hayride was a radio show, and these tracks would come from radio tanscriptions that were never designed to be played or heard more than once or twice. Remastering is as good as we will get. It is remarkable how close to the recording the band played. Scotty Moore's licks are almost identical to his studio work. For fans, fanatics, collectors and everyone interested in the history of rock n roll. This is where it all began. A singer and style that changed the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Christy, 3 Nov 2011

A new CD from Christy MOore is always eagerly awaited. He does not disappoint as the variety of songs is a typical Christy Moore encounter, live or on CD. Humour, anger, gentle, thought provoking. It is all here with usual superb production from Declan Sinnott who makes the voice the main event, and it really is the man at his best. If a few tunes may have been used before, who cares.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winter at his best., 3 Nov 2011

This review is from: Roots (Audio CD)
This is the best thing Winter has done in a long time. Great production, clean guitar, and even if the songs are old, the music sounds brand new. Guest guitarists including Sonny Landreth, and surprsingly, Vince Gill on Maybelline, help Winter shine.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better, 22 Sep 2011

Why oh why was Schmitt recorded playing his guitar with a pick up. The electric sound destroys all of the dynamics and nuances of this otherwise wonderful player. Plug out, not in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Jones, 22 Sep 2011
This review is from: Ragged But Right (Audio CD)
Incredible value, good sound with informative notes and discography. Forget a moronic review in Country Music People magazine by someone who probably was not even born when these titles were recorded. I can remember when you would have had to pay more for a soliary 45 by Thumper Jones than you do for these three great CDs. Delay no further.
