These trousers used to be brilliant but now the quality of manufacture and materials has deteriorated - ie the pocket lining can snag in the zips. Still good but as good as in previous years. The side pocket is very useful great for passport etc when travelling but mainly I wear them for walking mountains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable historical fiction, 24 Jun. 2014
An amazing book with non-stop surprising twists from the early scenes in 1912 through to the last page in the present day. This family saga begins in sleepy Kent when a dark stranger arrives in the village and plots a takeover with fatal consequences. To escape her predicament our heroine agrees to relocate to Spain but once again, she is overtaken by events as political turmoil threatens her idyllic new life. Jana Petken has cleverly woven historical fact into her dramatic tale, which embroils the reader with greed, love, death and Spanish Civil War. Can the family be reunited or will the war take its toll on the divided allegiances that wartime politics dictated. It takes 699 pages to discover the answers but for me it was an insight into those difficult times that I thoroughly enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast moving plot, 24 April 2014
This review is from: Refuse to Forget (Kindle Edition)
John Bishop’s third novel returns to the First World war era with underage Harry’s love of cars and his desire to see some action taking us on a non-stop adventure in war torn Belgium.
Using historical facts to provide the backdrop on this cleverly woven fictional yarn we have the narrator, Harry, trying to come to terms with the cultural mix of his female companions including the well-intentioned Lady Hester and the drama of the opening months of the War unfolding in front of him.
Events swing back and forth, as they battle to do their bit for the injured soldiers, frequently fighting not only the enemy but also the also British bureaucracy. As things go from bad to worse with the imminent prospect of facing a firing squad we begin to fear the worst for Harry and his band of females up against the Kaiser’s war machine.
This story helps highlight the prejudices and issues of the day, which do not end with the war as Harry struggles to resolve the conflict and confusion in his young life. Can he overcome? We are left hanging until the last page.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but what about the rest of Spain?, 2 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Despite all the hype and OTT reviews I was disappointed with this book, but if you like reviews of churches, religious artefacts, and architecture then go ahead and enjoy. Frankly I feel it gives a very limited image of Spain. Having said that he has a good writing style but pity it was not more focussed on the many aspects of Spain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a listen, 16 May 2013
This review is from: Human (Audio CD)
This album is frequently panned - but I love it. Maybe because it was new when I arrived in Spain and I played it endlessly on my car CD as I whizzed around Spain in my new found freedom and wonderful Spanish weather. Lots of great track especially 'Don't Come Round Here' If you are an RS fan you have to have this in your collection.

The Hidden Assassins (Javier Falcon)
The Hidden Assassins (Javier Falcon)
by Robert Wilson
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous fiction set in Seville, 4 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Please note - it really is best to read this series of 4 books in sequence so as too best understand the ongoing threads, although each has a main plot - the protagonist Inspector Jefe Javier Falcon, Seville cop, has a hectic private life which seems to impinge on his professional activities - trying to catch the baddies. In this one Seville is rocked by an explosion. the usual suspects are in the frame but Javi persues other leads and it all gets complicated and enthralling. Great scene setting in Seville giving the reader a real taste of Spain and (as I have said before) Wilson's dialogue is brilliant. Well worth reading
