A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There
A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There
by Aldo Leopold
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.29

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect conservation, 18 Aug 2010
I recently read in a conservation biology book that leoplold was some kind of "hunter come conservationist". i disagree he saw the need for conservation due to agricultural practises etc. He interacted with nature through mainly fishing, and studied books as a modern ecologists/ornithologist would. He put forward his understanding and observations. comparing that ranger book a year in the woods to this makes this look like a textbook and tuther a childrens story. \with the current conseravation movement, we seem to hold these people as heroes without truly learning from their writings and moving forward with their attitudes. don't think, just buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Woodland management and conservation, 6 Mar 2010
I am not a forestry student or anything like that, but have enjoyed this book and could see it benefiting a degree student. be warned though this is a textbook, lots of tables, graphs etc. not for a beginner or someone looking for basic woodland management principles. i paid alot for the book, but if you don't mind the price and want an extensive bank of knowledge then buy it. G.P is one of the top woodland writers along with mr rackham.

5.0 out of 5 stars powerful and inspiring, 2 Jan 2009
I love this book, i really do. I suppourt EarthFirst but as written abput in the book they have bad press and i agree are a little extreme. It is frustrating that the forest and environment is being torn down and rendered useless, but extremists are not the only answer, dave foreman illustarates this case well, whilst giving and insight into the environmental issues that face us.

Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman
by Yvon Chouinard
Edition: Paperback
Price: 11.72

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing and inspiring, 2 Jan 2009
I found out about the brand Patagonia before i knew anything about yvon chounaird, i was a little unsure of what to expect, but it has to be one of my favourite books, it gives a very good insight into what this man and the company is all abot, and also has a little about the management of the compny and different roles in the company, whilst providing mdetailed descriptions of his travel and product testing adventure. I hope this, helps, if it does not, buy the book anyway. its worth it.
