5.0 out of 5 stars Like the first volume, 16 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought Patricia Rose's first Kindle Book, titled "From My Heart To Yours" not realising that it was meant to be part of a series.

This is presumably her second outing, as far as I can see, but whereas the first book was intended to offer Comfort to those in despair, this offers Hope.

Like the first volume, there are some excellent poems, but my favourite is "Where There Is Hope", and particular the lines

"For they will read between the lines
Of a card that does not say Get Well Soon
For we all need hope
And to know hope is on its way".

How true.

A besutiful book - and perhaps - hopefully - there might even be more to come?

5.0 out of 5 stars A really beautiful book, 21 April 2014

Patricia Rose is in fact, Patricia Knapton, whose work as a songwriter I was already familir with - she penned the musicals "Bella" and "Heaven Sent" as well as receiving the International Songwriter Of The Year Award at the Las Vegas American Eagle Awards For Country Music three years running.

This book on the other hand is completely different, conprising 27 poems designed to bring comfort to those going through a particularly difficult time in their lives. Such offering as "A Special Memory Box" and "Someone Who Cares" demonstrate the healing power of words, and are designed to comfort people facing an illness or the loss of a loved one.

A really beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely The Best, 25 Feb. 2014
I would not normally review something I had not bought from Amazon, but since without Amazon, I would not now be the proud owner of this little beauty - here goes.

I came across this in a restaurant in Ireland some time back. They did not know the supplier's name, so I checked all the pictures of lemon squeezers on Amazon, found it, and ordered it!

Amazon unfortunately, could not deliver this particular item to Eire, but armed now with the brand name (Epicurio), I did a web search, found the UK firm that markets it, wrote a grovelling letter asking them if they would supply to Ireland - and lo and behold, they did.

I like lemon juice, particularly with fish, and have tried several different type of squeezers, all of which were deficient in some way or another. Some squirted more lemon into my eyes than into my fish. Some squirted none at all, while others broke on the third use. All needed very tiny slivers of lemon so that you were cutting and repleneshing the gadgets every few minutes.

This is such a simple invention that I cannot understand why I did not think of it myself.

You simply cut quite wide slices of lemon, and next thing, you have perfect lemon juice, on the plate and not on the tablecloth, nor on your tie.

They say it is unbreakable by hand - and it looks it. They also claim it will save you money by totally juicing a lemon, and to my surprise, this is not an exaggeration. I am not sure if it could get blood out of a stone, but it certainly gets 100% juice out of a lemon.

And it looks good on the table as well.

Thanks Amazon!

This is a very useful gadget which I bought in March 2012 (it is now February 2014), and which has proved utterly reliable. Ridiculously low price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth it for Clifford Rose!, 25 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Set seemingly in 1980 (it mentions that Martin Bormann has just celebrated his 80th birthday), this continues the story of SS Sturmbannführer Ludwig Kessler (now known as Manfred Dorf), about to be exposed on Belgian TV as a war criminal.

Kessler, now 72, but still playing an active role in what's left of the Nazi hierarchy, flees to London with a small entourage (including his fanatical daughter Ingrid who wants to establish the Fourth Reich), and from there to Paraguay, pursued by a West German intelligence officer who hopes to arrest him, and a young female former Israeli soldier who wants to kill him.

Here he meets up with such Nazi exiles as Martin Borman and Josef Mengele, before the all-too-obvious denouement.

Episode One is perhaps the strongest, uniting Albert Foiret, Monique Duchamps and Natalie Chantrens as they look back on their lives thirty-five years after Lifeline shut down.

Monique has married yet again, but does not seem particularly happy, while Albert - running not only the original Candide but a further six restaurants in Brussels - is the picture of smug self-contentedness.

The two girls readily identify Dorf as being Kessler, whereas the perpetually enigmatic Albert claims not to be sure, arguing that in any event, it is now too long ago to bother oneself with such things.

The three Lifeline stars are as engaging as ever, but unfortunately once they leave the series, it degenerates into just another chase movie, which - given that history tells us that the two Nazis Kessler “meets” in Paraguay, (Martin Bormann and Josef Mengele), were in real life both dead by 1980, borders on the fantastical.

Clifford Rose is as usual, impeccable, and manages to carry the "Boys From Brazil" storyline single-handed, and there are moments to savour in his performance, particularly when as Kessler, he attacks Mengele for being a degenerate and a stain on Nazism no less, while denouncing Bormann as a senile old fool.

Such moments however, are few and far between in a fairly unbelievable storyline, but it need not have been thus.

A follow-up to "Secret Army" titled "What Did You Do in the War Daddy?" and set in 1969, was actually filmed but never shown on TV. Indeed I would love to know if anybody has ever seen it?

If "Kessler" had to be set in 1980, then perhaps a sentimental visit back to Brussels by the former Sturmbannführer to introduce his daughter to his old haunts, leading inevitably to a chance meeting with the always pragmatic Foiret and his associates, might have resulted in a more interesting if less noisy series.

If you enjoyed "Secret Army", then this is an interesting set, but in all honesty, it lacks the magic of its predecessor.

Incidentally, if you are concerned about buying this on the grounds that it is in Dutch, do not worry. Only the liner notes and sub-titles are in Dutch - the sound-track itself is in English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Pianist At His Best, 6 Feb. 2014

Not too many session musicians ended up as pop stars, but Floyd Cramer was one who managed the transition.

This four album, 28 single collection contains almost all his US chart entries up to 1962, including "Last Date", "On The Rebound", "Hang On", "Chatanooga Choo Choo", "San Antonio Rose", "Your Last Goodbye", "Fancy Pants", "Flip Flop And Bop" and "Let's Go", although three charters are surprisingly omitted, namely "Lovesick Blues", "Java" and "Hot Pepper".

There are also a lot of excellent cover versions of such tunes as "Mood Indigo" and "Corinna Corinna", "Tammy" and "Let It Be Me".

Cramer was a fine composer and his own compositions prove just how versatile a writer he was.

Excellent sound quality throughout on all 76 tracks, at a crazy low price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Collection At A Budget Price, 6 Feb. 2014

Although Bobby Vee had a wagon load of hit singles in the USA, his albums did not fare as well, only one reaching the US Top 20.

The reason for this is not hard to see on this collection of his first eight LPs - made up mainly of cover versions of other people's hits. The vocals are excellent, but the arraangements are in most cases, just clones of the originals.

However, "Bobby Vee Meets The Crickets" (included here) was a standout album, (even if only one Cricket actually performed on the LP!) and there are some fine versions of other songs like "One Last Kiss" and "Light Infatuation", along with all his best singles from 1959 to 1962.

If you did not (as in my case) have the money to buy these when they first came out, this is an inexpensive way of completing your collecttion.

Vee is a fine songwriter ("Suzy Baby" his first hit was sel-penned), and it is a pity that Snuff Garrett did not allow him more leeway regarding the track selections on his earlier albums.

The sound quality is superb throughout although sadly, there are no liner notes or booklet.

No, I am not the expert mentioned above, but I bought this as a gift for a colleague who is an expert on the movie, and his reaction was - to put it mildly - ecstatic.

Personally I am not crazy about the movie (I prefer "Citizen Kane"), but when somebody who knows what they are talking about tells me that this is the ultimate work on the subject - I pay attention.
