4.0 out of 5 stars Fun series, 20 Aug. 2015

I like this series, just steers a fine line between fun and becoming twee. It's good that the characters aren't frozen in time, so babies arrive and grow, the adults' lives change, and it's not too sweet, so the doting grandmother is not thrilled about having to provide free childcare, but accepts it. They eat a lot of cake which is always good when one's avoiding it, sort of fantasy calories.

nothing exciting, but works fine, and was easy to set up and alter the times, etc. Wasn't mad about the provided pictures, but could probably change to something else, not too worried. the app was free, and I just wanted something as a back-up when I had a very early pick-up at the airport to do. Haven't used it daily, but no reason to think that it wouldn't be reliable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful ideas, 22 July 2015

this was free, and is a short summary of uses for bicarbonate of soda. Most of these are well-known, but it's worth reading through for new ideas. I don't think that I would have paid for it, particularly as it is so short, but it was fine, would suit someone who didn't have any idea of what bicarbonate of soda can be used for. (Baking soda is mainly the US term)

I found the location interesting, but felt the book was in need of sharpening, seemed lots of repetitive scenes, and the characters came over as very bland. It could have been improved by cutting by at least a quarter, I thought. The technical editing, spelling, grammar and syntax were excellent, well-formatted for Kindle. Could suit people who want something light to read on holiday.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disneyland Cornwall, 15 Jun. 2015

I abandoned this, would have been passable if set in the USA, maybe, but setting it in Cornwall was ridiculous, no sense of place at all, and no knowledge of police forces and procedures in the UK. Full of Americanisms. I had just been reading Janie Bolitho, which are books set in Cornwall with a similar protagonist and type of story, and the difference is incredible.

The Case of Colourful Clothes and Kilts: Dumfries Detective 2 (Dumfries Detective Series)
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery set in Dumfries, 13 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good atmosphere and setting, one of a trilogy forming a continuing story. Dumfries is where the main action takes place, although characters do travel elsewhere. I did feel that the girlfriend was a bit thinly drawn compared to the locals. The central group of friends, who have known each other all their lives, increase the small-town feel. The mystery seemed a bit outlandish, but was worked out by the end (this is the second book of three) Good to see some character development.

All-in-all, an enjoyable read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs editing, 13 Jun. 2015

I only read a couple of chapters, the spelling and grammar mistakes and Americanisms prevented me from getting into the story. I thought it needed a good editing. The actual plot seemed interesting, and had a vintage flavour, so I assumed it was set back in the fifties or sixties until a mobile phone popped up. Many reviewers (wished I'd read them first) mentioned things like emergency lighting not coming on when the main lights failed in a university building. That, and lots of other things seemed oddly out-of-date.
Hope the author is able to get the work edited, there could be a huge improvement for little effort.

this is one of a series of books set in west Cornwall, the sense of place is terrific, They are crime novels, and very competent, but for me that comes below reading about such a well-described area.

So sorry that the author has died.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good games, 19 May 2015

This review is from: Peppa Pig Theme Park (App)
Bought for children, who really liked it. Good range of different games, so can go back to it without too much of just doing the same thing again, and has things which suited an age range of two to seven, with four children between these ages having played with it. Not really sure what the favourite game was, as I couldn't really work it out from the descriptions. I think that Daddy Pig was almost as big as the swimming pool, which was one thing they all thought very funny when they were able to put him in there.

I've read a few of this series, down-to-earth and workmanlike style, enjoyable, and well thought out mysteries.
