What You Wish Poetry All Was, 8 Oct 2013
Raymond Antrobus does something truly great with this collection. He manages to write stunning, warm, funny, descriptive, raw, sometimes heart breaking poetry while avoiding cliché, unnecessarily long extended metaphors and exaggerated 'flowery' language. Forget school poetry anthologies and dramatic performance poets, this is what modern poetry is at its best.
What you will find in this collection is elegant, crafted, down to earth and honest. You don't get the impression Ray is writing to impress you, or anyone else, he might just have found the language to translate common experiences into relatable, graceful prose.
This poetry feels like Ray is telling you stories in person. When you finish it, you will want to spend more time with him.
