4.0 out of 5 stars You little Monkey...., 5 May 2005
This review is from: Animal Magic (Audio CD)
If you ever get a chance to see Bonobo live (in a field at 3am in the morning) then take it- laid back beats and melodies are Bonobo's hot tip.
Originally on the brilliant Tru Thoughts label, Bonobo then managed to get this re-released and their second (and highly recommended) album on the equally ace Ninja Tune label.
If you're a fan of either label, then you'll enjoy this. Folky melancholia and blissful beats mingle together for a very classy chilled out LP. The highlight here is the early single, Terrapin, which I'm sure has been used on many chill out compilations and TV adverts in the UK.
Enjoy, then buy the follow up- Dial M for Monkey!!

5.0 out of 5 stars They just get better..., 6 Aug 2004
A splended album of beautifully crafted songs, with a lose 'concept' based around some pink robots! Every track is great (apart from the dire 'Yoshimi part1') and are sequenced together brilliantly, which reminds me a bit of Pink Floyd at their best. Also reminisent of the 'Floyd is the fantastic packaging- coloured vinyl and a gatefold sleeve! All in all a sublime collection...

5.0 out of 5 stars How it should be..., 6 Aug 2004
This review is from: Stampede [VINYL] (Vinyl)
If you're a fan of funk or soul from any era- you will love this album! If you're familar with the work of Quantic (Will Holland) this certainly matches, if not surpasses, his previous output.
Based around a live 11 piece band (as opposed to studio based electronics), with strictly no samples, QSO have sculpted an LP of shear beauty and genius.
Once you've played this once, many of the songs, riffs and beats seem to stick in your head- especially stand out track HOLD IT DOWN (a cover of the 4 Hero track which far out strips their version & the vocal, by the amazing Alice Russell, recorded in one take!) and the brilliant SUPER 8- which will constitute further plays! I'd recommend the vinyl as the sleeve notes state that this is a 'tribute' to the great funk LP's which have been heavily sampled, right down to the fake sellotape around the edges of a faux-worn cover and the invitation for todays DJ's and producers to take samples for their music. Every track is a winner here, with repeated plays inevitable- the only worry being that I'm likely to wear my copy out sometime soon!! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweeeeeeeet......, 9 Feb 2004

Anyone who's seen Mr Scruff play in a club, or been to his web site, would have noticed his child-like animations.
This DVD e.p. is a collection of his best tracks, with accompanying animations. It may be short but it's certainly appealing, as demonstrated by my mother (55) and my daughter (6) being fans of it!
The music's great too- so if your a fan of groovy music AND groovy animation, this is a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars A little extra Chao..., 9 Feb 2004
This review is from: Merry Blues (Audio CD)
This European release is a must for anyone that has managed to over play both of Manu Chaos' studio albums (and possibly, his live album), and are awaiting new material. Although you will be familar with the lead track, the two remixes will add a different perspecive on it, whilst also, possibly, giving us a taster of his next release, which as far as I know is a remix album.
Included at the end is a montage video for Merry Blues with footage from his travels around South America- which is explored more fully on his DVD (which is also highly recommended.)
