3.0 out of 5 stars Fine if you've had no help before, but it isn't revolutionary., 1 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There is nothing in the book that I had not come across before, absolutely nothing, but it was at least captured all in one place. If you've been through any form of professional career councelling (e.g. a careers service at University or School) then much of this will be familiar. Likewise if you've trawled through the internet advice on job hunting and networking then much of this will be familiar. I suspect the original premise was put togehter before so much became available on the internet, before LinkedIn made most of this easy to implement and easy to find the advice on structure and content. But it is relatively succinct, brings all the relevant information together in one place and there is nothing wrong with the advice this book provides, it just isn't the revolutionary eye-opener the author tries to make it out to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very readable, even for a book on Finance!, 16 July 2012
This book is surprisingly readable for this subject matter. It is written in a light style without too much expectation of already being a financial wizard or an accountant (you need a basic understanding of some of the terms). The short case studies make good sense of the academic material and it is easy to follow the process of thought that leads to the various financial strategies presented and methods of valuation for companies etc. It is also easy to dip into specific topics without having read the whole book, so will make an excellent post-study reference when trying to apply some of these specific methods and strategies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favour and buy something else; like pen and paper?, 12 Mar 2012
Well I have tried to get on with this laptop, but without doubt it is the worse machine I have ever had the misfortune to use. The keyboard is poorly laid out and the numeric pad a complete waste of time. The mouse is insensitive when you're using it, but super-senstivie when you are simply moving about a cm from it's surface typing, resulting in being shoved all over the place in WORD documents. For an i3 processor its slow, the screen is bright, but the resolution is poor for one so large, surely it should be HD? The battery life and power management is the only feature worth mentioning in a favourable light, it will easily do 6 hours, but after about 30 mins you'd wish it was dead! CD/DVD cover appears to fall off every now and again, the screen hinge is weak and after about 3 months appears to start seperating along the seem (I'm on my second in 6 months) and the radio for WiFi seems quite poor, the slightest movement can stop it working and over-air speeds seem slower than my HTC phone? Seriously, it is without doubt a steaming heap of pain!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the quality of their other products, 9 Sep 2011
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
My son has more Playmobil than you can shake a stick at, but became obsessed this year with the new Spy series (we now have everything in this series!). Unfortunately the quality of the plastic clips in this and some of the other toys in this series is not up to the same standard as previous Playmobil toys we have had. This has both the rear wings facture where they hinge on the back of the car and the response from Playmobil is that we can buy replacement wings, we only bought this in July for his birthday and they were broken by August from not especially heavy play. The Robo Gang Satellite is even worse by the way. The toy itself is still loved and played with by my son, this is one of the few he actually bought himself! But I am very dissapointed with the quality of this product and series in general compared to the other Playmobil toys we have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid toy, not as compact as you might imagine, 9 Sep 2011
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

My son loves all things Playmobil, but I was a bit concerned about the quality of the plastic when continuously expanding/closing such a toy, but in all fairness this has luived up to the quality of a lot of their other toys and proven to be very solid. The belt-clip idea is a bit odd however as even when compacted, this is still a bulky item. Overall a solid dependable toy that my son loves to play with.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so much secrets as quick refresher., 9 Sep 2011
As the previous reviewer states, not many real secrets revealed in this book. However, as a quick and easy read to update/refresh your PM knowledge it is not a bad place to start. If you're coming at PM from zero background then this is not the book for you. If you've done a bit of PM and want to know some of the theory, again this is not the book for you as there is insufficient detail. If, however, you are a seasoned PM who needs a refresher on what it's all about (lets be honest it's easy to forget, especially in the middle of a project), then this might be the "pick me up" you need. It's not for novices or theory merchants, but for practiced PM's with little time to consume a big theory book it's a good little concise overview of what PM should be all about.

In Search of Lemurs: My Days and Nights in a Madagascar Rain Forest
In Search of Lemurs: My Days and Nights in a Madagascar Rain Forest
by Joyce A. Powzyk
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but expensive for 48 pages., 27 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I can not disagree with the previous reviewer, this is quite a delightful book, but the base cost and difficulty in getting hold of it do not justify it's contents. Sadly there is not that much available in print about Lemurs and I guess it never sold very well. I think a few articles from National Geographic could give you as much insight, although would not contain some of the personal accounts from the author, but to be honest, there is little that is not relatively standard fare when searching for elusive animals. You'd be better off with a video on these charming creatures for the same money.

2-section Stylus Pen Pack - Black (3 pack) for Mio A701

3.0 out of 5 stars Good price, quality matches the cost!, 27 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
They are not original, but stick well into the A701. I broke one within a month, they are significantly more flimsy than the originals, but I guess you get what you pay for. Normal regular use and these should last, the second I'm onto has gone for almost 6 months now, looks like it might outlast the phone itself! For this price I got what I expected, I'm not overly dissapointed but they are not of the quality of the originals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lemur Spotters Guide, 27 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I guess it depends what you expect, but essentially this is a Lemur spotters field guide. If you're off on safari to Madagascar it's a must. If you're interested in Lemurs and want to be able to easily identify them in zoo's it's useful. If you are expecting anything else it is an expensive leaflet of Lemur pictures. The price reflects the rarity of the topic and expected low sales volume, it's a specialist item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confused and Self Serving, 27 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Planets (Hardcover)
If you have enjoyed any of the other Dava Sobel books, please avoid this. It is devoid of all the features that have made the other books so successful; personality, human triumph over aversity and scientific discovery. This is a mish-mash of science, psuedo-science and romantic nonsense in a disconnected series of chapters, none of which deliver the same type of story about their respective planet. Exceptionally dissapointing, it is difficult to know how such an accomplished author fell to these depths, it's almost as if this is a rushed text to meet some publishing deadline, hence cobbled together from half finished notes and musings. There are some good bits, but they are so difficult to find as to not be worth looking. There are some significantly better books available on the same topic, save your money for them.
