5.0 out of 5 stars Wait for 5th Edition, 4 Dec. 2011
Seriously, I love the whole D&D thing, but the rumours in the RPG industry is that WoTC have 're-employed' Monte Cook, who helped write 3rd edition to work on the 5th Edition.

This means that if you purchase the three Core Rule Books for someone this year for Christmas they may well end up owning something that the company doesn't support. The release date is VERY hush-hush but 5th Edition is well on its way - it could be next year or the year after.

Personally, I'd get them the Paizo published Pathfinder RPG - it's well supported with loads of supplements, sourcebooks, Adventure Paths and Modules. Don't get me wrong, I started with D&D, but somewhere WoTC lost their way.....

5.0 out of 5 stars It even contains stats for the 'village idiot'!!, 30 Oct. 2010
I've given this 5 stars mainly for the ready to use NPC's in chapter 9 - as an experienced GM of many years for several d20/3.x fantasty settings I no longer have to leaf through pages of sourcebooks or old modules - it gives a wide range of npc's to immediately place in a scene, wherever the players may be as this guide gives over 50 pages of people to populate your game world from the city watch to, yes, the village idiot and everthing in between. It's also good if the players need a hireling - just pick a generic tomb raider (rogue) or caravan guard (fighter) and job done.

Like another reviewer has posted it may be overwhelming for a new GM but it could prove useful if you just skim through and use only what you need.

Yeah, the art is great but the information contained within is more important...

4.0 out of 5 stars Lespaulphiles come this way!!, 24 Nov. 2009
why only 4 stars? This is why: Now with 16 extra pages and 45 new pictures, this timely and retitled update of "50 Years Of The Gibson Les Paul....

so if you already own a book about one of the most recognisable electric guitars in history (along with the Fender Stratocaster)do not buy this - but on the other hand if you NEED or WANT a book about the Gibson Les Paul i would go as far as saying that this is the best available at the moment.

Highly informative, with superb illustrations and even more poignant now that Les Paul himself passed away earlier this year on August 12, 2009 :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Easily 'Catch 'Em All!' or Infinite Lives, Health etc, 30 Aug. 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Team Rocket would give their eye-teeth for this!!! I bought this for my two sons who had both completed Diamond and Pearl but wanted to 'Catch 'Em All - Ash, Brock and Misty would be proud. Worth buying just for the POKEMON CHEATS - after updating via th website you can get:

MAX CASH
All TM's and HM's
Pokemon can learn every TM
Every Pokeball 100% catch rate
Wild Pokemon are shiny - RED GYRADOS, SHINY MEW or MEWTWO, GOLDEN/ORANGE PIKACHU!!
In Battle Codes:
1 Hit Kill
Infinte Health
Infinite PP
EXP CODES:
Quick EXP Gain
Super EXP Gain
999 Thunderstones, Rare Candy etc
999 Pokeballs, Masterballs, Darkballs etc
999 ALL Berries
CAPTURE EVERY POKEMON from Red/Blue/Yellow upto Platinum
Walk Through Walls - the manufacturers warn you about using this cheat...

Luckily we had an old DS to 'Test' it on first before using it with a DS Lite, but to be honest it works fine - ONE DOWNSIDE IS THAT SOMEWHERE WITH ONE OF THE CHEATS YOU GET A '''BAD EGG''' DO NOT HATCH THIS EGG AS IT WILL CRASH THE GAME, JUST DUMP IT IN THE STORAGE COMPUTER AND LEAVE IT.

1.0 out of 5 stars Let's rip off the kids and damage the DS touch screen!!!, 18 Aug. 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Pokemon Ranger is a money raking spin-off of an excellent franchise. My son bought this and within a week went through three, yes three, screen protectors and eventually damaged the touch screen due to the way you use the stylus to capture pokemon. It is poor copy of the Pokemon adventures first found in blue, red and yellow and up to diamond and pearl at the moment...

In my sons opinion (who is 12)is: this is a 'terrible idea' because you do not collect a 'virtual zoo' of pokemon, but release them after they help you, My son's comment was 'this stinks like yesterday's used nappies!' LOL TBH stick with the 'classic' pokemon style games AND only buy if you are a true hard core fan and you want to damage your DS/ DS Lite in the process.
