5.0 out of 5 stars man and dog, 25 Jan 2013
a wonderful story of how strong the bonds can be between a man and his dog.. Thomas writes of his relationship with his afghan Baltho.. and also about how the dog helped him both in his life and with his work as a counselor.. its made me look at dogs and in fact all animals quite differently..i hadn't realised dogs were capable of such deep understanding of us humans..the book is hard to put down and i can't wait for Thomas to write another one..

Was looking forward to reading this book after picking it up in Smiths.. unfortunately it fell apart half way through.. the first half was fairly dynamic.. but the second half just faded into obscurity,, the story failed to grip.. the characters had no definition.. i lost interest... the two halves of the story failed to gel and the characters had insufficient depth for me to care what happened to them.. a great disappointment..

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 17 April 2009
i bought this book having enjoyed work by this author before.. but found it deeply disappointing. The characters didn't engage me, apart from little eggy, i found the plot disjointed, tedious and long winded..really nowhere near as good as "What i loved". She seemed determined to draw parallels, deep meanings. from events that just appeared as a jumble...

Nicci french is back on form with this book. Its excellently written and gets you into the mind of both the killer and the victim, with some clever twists and turns along the way... I read it in one sitting, finishing at 3am..it really was that good..

being a nicci french fan I have to admit like other readers i was disappointed by this book... although well written it just didn't ring true to me..and had lost my interest by about half way through. The ending seemed forced and unrealistic..and I hope any new "french" readers will start with another book...this is the only one of hers i haven't wanted to keep...
