5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for young and old, 21 Sept. 2009
This review is from: A Fortunate Life (Paperback)
This man went through so much in his lifetime, suffering all kinds of hardships right from his formative years, and yet he tells his story without any hint of self-pity; indeed, as the title suggests, he felt he'd had a good life. It is this spirit that gives the story its meaning, as he pushes on through the problems and difficulties that would have brought many to their knees in the early stages.
Facey's story is truly inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, 21 Sept. 2009
Over the years I have borrowed this book twice and it never fails to amaze and inspire me. This is an adventure by one man pitting his wits and using all his skill against the elements (however, if he were here today he may say `with' the elements, as he loved what he was doing). I decided to buy the book as I know that I will read it many more times in my life, God willing.
You may read other more recent true-life adventure stories, but Joshua Slocum's perilous adventures were undertaken without the aid of modern technology, which is truly amazing.
This is a book that all parents should encourage their children to read, and all teachers should include it in class.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Experts Speak - UK perspective, 21 Sept. 2009
This review is from: The Experts Speak (Paperback)
Since recently purchasing this publication I have thoroughly enjoyed it. There are a tremendous number of quotes from a wide variety of people and from different areas of life. As a UK customer I would like to see more quotes from the UK, especially in the sport section, and in particular, football (know as soccer in the US) along with cricket and rugby, as the bits relating to US sport has no meaning in the UK. Having said that, the vast majority of the book's content is universal and understandable.
