The Boys From Brazil
The Boys From Brazil
by Ira Levin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Awful introduction, 26 July 2013
This review is from: The Boys From Brazil (Paperback)
The book itself was pretty good but not great. It seemed very cliched although it probably would have been better to read it when it first came out. Mengele seemed the wrong sort of evil to what the actual man was like (too much of a bond villan). It was an enjoyable read though and kept the reader interested throughout, if a little let down by the end.

My main reason for writing a review is the terrible introduction in this edition. It gives away key plot points, including the ending. Don't read it before the actual book, I may have enjoyed it more if I couldn't see the ending coming based on that intro.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well written but wrong title, 2 May 2013
I bought this book because I wanted to know more about the parts of Russian history that aren't covered to death - anything before 1917 really. I thought a book titled 'a 1,000 year history...' would be perfect but instead I find that we reach 1917 after only a third of a way through (and even before that there are plenty of references to communist Russia). I wanted to know about Suvurov but he was only covered when mentioning ships and awards named after him and the Crimean war was only given a paragraph. It also seemed to skip over all early history to rush to the 20th century.

The book was well written and was very informative so if you are looking for a history of recent Russia then this would be great but if you want a full history look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Story written badly, 20 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really enjoyed the story of Tamerlane and have read brief accounts of his life in other books. This book unfortunately was a real let down and very hard to keep interested in. The author spends more time on his travels and the buildings he visited, most of this content has no relation to Tamerlane whatsoever. He also spends a lot of time on Marlowe's play which, as the author himself states, is not a great reflection of the life of Tamerlane. He also places these useless sections at regular intervals which really breaks up the story and makes it very hard to read.

Sadly I feel the author didn't have enough to write about to fill a book but I would have preferred a 200 page really interesting account of Tamerlane's life than the extra waste of words.

5.0 out of 5 stars briliant ac/dc album, 13 Mar. 2004
This is a great AC/DC album, one of their best and this new packaging is brilliant with the booklet that tells you everything about this album. There are many great tracks on this album such as the very funny big balls and the amazing title track. It also contains their only ballad, ride on and this song is just as amazing as their faster paced work.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album rocks, 12 Mar. 2004
This review is from: High Voltage (Audio CD)
This is an unbelivable debut album that was just on the same level as albums such as highway to hell and back in black. There are so many good songs taht they still play live such as TNT, high voltage and the jack. There is some real variety in the tracks, for example bon scott plays a great bagpipe solo on its a long way to the top

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but missing some important songs, 8 Mar. 2004
Its good to see that guns n' roses are finally realeasing something (shame it is a best of though). However any real guns n' roses fan will already have all these songs (apart from maybe their cover of sympathy for the devil). This album is also missing classics such as estranged and contains too many covers. But it gets 3 stars for having both november rain and sweet child o' mine on the same cd.
A good introduction to any new gnr fan, but true fans won't need it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Filth, 20 Feb. 2004
This film is a disgrace. Women are not objects and should never treated as slaves, even if they are lesbians. I believe this filth should be wiped from shelves and the only reason I give it 1 star is because there are some really fit women in it getting it on with each other. I came. If you have any self respect though, stay away. You can download from free porn from eMule or KaZaA so go with that instead. Thankyou please.

3.0 out of 5 stars buy another ac/dc album, 16 Feb. 2004
This review is from: The Razor's Edge (Audio CD)
This album is not a good picture of what ac/dc can do, it has a few good tracks such as thunderstruck and moneytalks, but instead i would reccomend buying one of their earlier albums, preferably a Bon Scott album like highway to hell or let there be rock

2.0 out of 5 stars poor ac/dc, 16 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Stiff Upper Lip (Audio CD)
this album is not up to ac/dc usual standards. The only two things that save this album from a one star review are the title track and the bonus disc. Apart from that nothing stands out. Ac/dc obviously realise they didn't do well as on the stiff upper lip tour they only played the title track.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as good as if u want blood, 16 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This album is a great show of ac/dc live with brain Johnson, with his voice amazing throughout the album. The stand out tracks on this album are back in black and for those about to rock. But this album is not as good as if u want blood which was recorded when bon scott was still the bands frontman. For example whole lotta rosie is much better there than it is here.
A good album though still
