Outsider: Always Almost: Never Quite
Outsider: Always Almost: Never Quite
Price: 7.98

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating account of the art world., 25 Jun 2013
So much interesting background to a time I lived through - people who were just names were brought alive vividly by Brian Sewell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unputdownable, 25 Jun 2013
I loved Sewell's unflinching bravery of view - personal and professional. Be prepared for the frankness all round, though, fullfrontal.

Lightborn (Darkborn Trilogy)
Lightborn (Darkborn Trilogy)
by Alison Sinclair
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Most original fantasy trilogy, 19 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was very taken with the idea behind this trilogy - that there are two groups of people inhabiting the same country, one of whom can only move in the light, the other in darkness. The relationships are beautifully portrayed

Transformation: Book One of the Rai-Kirah
Transformation: Book One of the Rai-Kirah
by Carol Berg
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping fantasy - first of a trilogy, 19 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am a big fan of Carol Berg and thoroughly enjoyed this and the rest of the series. It might worry some readers as there is quite a lot of sex and violence.

Wings of Fire
Wings of Fire
by Charles Todd
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

2.0 out of 5 stars Over hyped, 19 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was recommended to read this by a friend - I didn't like it at all and found it totally unconvincing as a period story - the author may have researched the first world war and its aftermath, but had no feeling for the period. Will certainly not be reading anything more by this author - or should I say these authors?

5.0 out of 5 stars very exxciting, 19 Feb 2013
An excellent thriller. A very interesting melange of nineteenth century style - bringing in various well known real and literary figures. I bought it for Kindle, not being entirely convinced by the publisher's blurb that it would be a book I would want to keep - but I was wrong!

Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy 2)

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing, 19 Feb 2013

rather disappointing after her first amazingly good book. Too much showing of her research gets in the way of the storytelling. But I will still wait eagerly for the next vollume

5.0 out of 5 stars Gardening Women, 17 May 2010
This is the sort of book that will appeal both to garden history specialists and those who are just interested in the idea of women and gardens. It's well written and well illustrated. A really enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER WINNER FROM DIANA WYNNE JONES, 24 Mar 2010
This review is from: Enchanted Glass (Hardcover)
I have been a fan of Diana Wynne Jones for years. It irritates me beyond measure that she does not receive the praise that she deserves so much more than J.K. Rowling. Wynne Jones did wizards at school long before Harry Potter and did it so much better. Anyway, rant over!!

This is quite a short book but packs so much in. There's a good story with suspense and humour. What more can you ask?
