5.0 out of 5 stars A Posse Of Great Tracks From These Wanted Outlaws!, 25 Sep 2012
This review is from: It's About Pride (Audio CD)
I just love this southern country classic rock that they produce setting it apart from contemporary country music with its excellent duel guitars that have a nice crisp edge to them and also hearing every note, also great vocals & production from these southern rockers.

This is the outlaw's first studio album since 1994 can't believe it's that long, a great revival by the band but it's been worth the wait, on the first listening the track that gripped me first was `hidin' out in Tennessee' really like the guitar solo at the end, then after a few more listens I liked `tomorrows another night' then the title track `it's about pride' then `born to be bad'? Oh I give up, the whole album just grew on me, possibly `Alex's song' if any is the only week track on the album, but the last track `so long' is just a classic, typical outlaws track with a cracking guitar solo at the end! Brilliant.

Well! I would definitely recommend this album and 5 stars from me, and I can't say that about some new album releases lately, well overhyped and a disappointment, but not this album!! There's definitely a lot of `Pride' gone into the making of this album, so go out and buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars No La Futura?, 16 Sep 2012
This review is from: La Futura (Audio CD)
Love the drumming and love that rough/fuzz guitar sound and guitar playing, but I'm afraid Billy's singing is not up to scratch, just too croaky & ragged; well you do lose your voice as you get older and he's definitely lost his.

I agree with some comments that there's no chorus or catchy tunes to get you singing or even tapping your feet, the ballad `over you' is the best track on the album for me, just because a band I like have released a new album doesn't mean I have to like it just because it's ZZ Top! No I'm disappointed considering it's about 9 years since the last album and this one has been 3 years in the making, and this is the result?

Look! The way I look at it is this, if I put this cd in a drawer or cupboard would I be missing it and searching for it to play? Well! The answers NO!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Like This Country Fried Chicken Skynyrd Album!, 25 Aug 2012
After 4 or 5 listens this album grows on you, it's a mixture of southern rock, blues with some country blues thrown in, and its typical Skynyrd, tracks that stand out after a couple of listens are: Last Of A Dyin' Breed, One Day At A Time, Honey Hole & the two bonus tracks, Do it up Right & the excellent Sad Song.

It doesn't matter who the band members are the intention to keep the original sound still resonate throughout the album, good crystal clear guitar with all the other instruments tightly knitted and following in very close proximity.

I prefer this than the last album God & Guns, but neither of these albums are as good as `Twenty' which is still the best studio album since the early days, that's my opinion anyway, it's a good solid album and does have a couple of weak tracks, but a decent album all said and done, it's not that good to give it 5 stars but definitely 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Eagle Has Landed! Analog Joe Flying High With This., 12 Aug 2012
This review is from: Analog Man (Audio CD)
I really like this new album from Joe, It's nice to hear some new material from him as a solo artist, and I know you can hear the Jeff Lynne production and influence, but I don't have an issue with this, not like some reviewers, Jeff is a British music icon, he's a singer, songwriter, guitarist & producer I could go on, having Jeff collaborating in any way or form on your album is an advantage and not a hindrance as far as I'm concerned.

The first listen went right over my head but I knew there was definitely something good about this album, after another 4 or 5 listens my judgement was confirmed all good catchy tunes & melodies, especially the lovely balled `Family' which really caught my attention early on, the one track I was surprised at was the last track `India' seems more of a dance track but it does pull itself around with Joe's great guitar work, I'm glad it did, can't stand dance music, but no bad tracks here so no need to go through each track deciphering the good from the bad.

It's just a pity that we're relying on the godfathers of rock to release new decent material, anyway! If this doesn't put a smile on your face then nothing will! My only gripe is I just wish it was longer than 37 odd minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something Fishy About His Albums Lately!, 15 July 2012
I really expected a lot more from this album and I'm a big Walter Trout fan, and he's one of my favourite guitarists, I've seen him twice and have bought all of his albums, my favourite is still `Prisoner of a Dream' just a fabulous album, if you don't have it then go out and buy it!

Well! This is not easy to say but I agree with `dark lords' comments in saying if you have several albums of Walters then there's nothing new or better here than he's already previously done, can't believe I'm saying this but just stating the truth.

So the two albums I've really been looking forward to hearing are here, Walter Trout v Joe Bonamassa's `driving towards the daylight' so being a Walter Trout fan it's hard to admit but Joe's wins hands down for me, well! Life's full of surprises, I'll give Walters 4 stars because of its great guitar work as usual & length of musical content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joe's Gone Into Overdrive With This!!!, 5 July 2012
Well! I agree with a lot of comments and for me this is Joe's best album so far, the first track I heard off this album was `too much ain't enough love' and the singer Jimmy Barnes who I'm not too familiar with, wow! I just fell in love with this track and to put this track last on the album sums up how good it is.

Great blues/rock album fell in love with it straight away and I'll be playing this to death when I'm on holiday in 2 weeks, hard to pick a favourite track as there are so many to choose from, just shows you if you can include some catchy tunes, melodies and cover the songs he's not written better than the original then this is what you get, also Joe is so busy collaborating on so many other artist albums, obviously this must help for future material I just don't know how he finds time for his own, anyway! To sum up this is my favourite album of 2012 so far, go out and buy! You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars At last! Back On The Rails!!!, 3 Jun 2012
This review is from: Strangeland (Audio CD)
Just don't get it, if you buy the deluxe edition cd you get 4 extra tracks including the title track `strangeland' but if you buy the standard 12 track cd you don't get the title track of the album? Rather annoying for somebody who's spending their hard earned cash and not aware of this, just sums up the music industry.

Onto the album `silence by night' & `disconnected' are my favourite tracks and wouldn't be out of place on the `hopes & fears' album, also `strangeland' & `the boys' two of the four extra tracks off the deluxe edition, the rest of the tracks are okay but I expected more from this album after listening to the bands comments before the release, saying "this will be the best album we've made" well you would say that releasing a new album, but definitely don't agree as it's not a patch on `hopes & fears' and not as good as `under the iron sea' and maybe on level par with `perfect symmetry' let's face it this album couldn't be worse than the last one `night train' when the band fell off the rails unless keane teamed up other rap crap mates to help out!!

To sum up this album! After a few listens which like any other new album you need to do, it's a mixture of a couple of really good tracks, some nice ballads and some bland tracks that to me says "I've heard it all before" but best of all no rap! So the band are heading back in the right direction after the disappointment of the last album, so it's 4 stars for me because of the extra tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Loveit Perfection, 27 April 2012
This review is from: Trilogy (Audio CD)
Just thought I'd add some comments, this is my favourite ELP album and I bought it when it came out in 1972 and I still have the original vinyl album now, and it's in mint condition still.

I went to see ELP live at the Top Rank in Liverpool in 1972, it was my first ever concert and I was still at school, they played most of the Trilogy album and I was gobsmacked at these three superb musicians playing this fantastic classical/rock music, I also saw them again in 1974 at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.

Back to the trilogy album, from the first track `The Endless Enigma part 1' which starts off slow and builds up to a crescendo of great musicianship and timing, then into `Fugue' which has Keith Emerson playing light/heavy classical piano which leads into `The Endless Enigma part 2' from this we go to track 4 `From The Beginning' which is my favourite Greg Lake song, a nice balled with mainly acoustic guitar and ending with some electric guitar and keyboards, track 5 takes us to the `Sheriff' a track which is famous for its honky tonk wild west fast piano playing ending, apparently ELP always liked to put a gimmicky type song on each album and if you listen to other albums you'll find them.

Onto track 6 `Hoedown' written by Aaron Copland the first version I ever heard was ELP's It just blew me away, couldn't stop playing this track, just brilliant keyboard playing from Keith Emerson, I always felt sorry for Greg Lake & Carl Palmer as you knew that when Keith Emerson got going it would be 100mph non stop for Greg & Carl. Track 7 which is my favourite `Trilogy' this is just a fantastic song and I agree! Is in three sections, ballad/classical/rock, great piano, synthesiser, drumming & bass playing all put together with great timing, everything you want in a song is in this track.

Track 7 `Living Sin' always seems to get overlooked somehow, this is a great track Greg's strong vocals and I love the wonderful stop/start timing on this track and great drumming from Carl Palmer, finally track 8 `Abaddon's Bolero' an instrumental which starts off very quiet and slowly gets louder, it's one of those tracks that you think you've heard before, in a film or on the TV somewhere, that's how I felt when I first heard it, very catchy tune though.

To sum up, prog rock at its best, Trilogy is an album I'd recommend and still stands the test of time, well when you have one of the best keyboard players, bass players & drummers in the world this is what you produce.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag Of Tricks!, 10 Nov 2011
A very busy Mr Hackett, `Out Of The Tunnels Mouth' in 2010 and now this, I think we're spoilt for choice at the moment. Well! We have a mixture of rock, classical and Indian music on this album, my favourite tracks are: `Loch Lomond' `The Phoenix Has Flown' `A Place Called Freedom' and an excellent version of `Tommy' a certain Mr Akkerman would be impressed by Steve's version, also not forgetting `Reconditioned Nightmare'.
Don't like `Waking To Life' and `Two Faces Of Cairo' the rest of the album I enjoy although some of the slow classical tracks are a bit weak, this album didn't surprise me at all, it's a typical Steve Hackett mixed bag of tricks but a decent album all said and done, it's a 4 stars for me because of the bonus CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knock Knock! Who's there....A really good album! Enjoy., 8 Nov 2011
This review is from: Time Of My Life (Audio CD)
First of all let me say that I'm not one of 3DD greatest fans but this album is excellent, I had this on and my son thought it was nickleback, okay the voice is similar being strong and forceful. I get fed up listening to albums that have no melody or catchy tunes and sounding just the same all the way through, but not this album, strong songs and catchy tunes make this highly enjoyable, I highly recommend this album, just enjoy it!
