5.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop/Funky Breaks Jam, 20 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Freakshow (Audio CD)
Really uplifting album, combining genres of funky hip hop (We Do This, Keep Movin), funky breaks (Bring back the funk, She's out of my head) funky house (Funk Is), some electro-club efforts (Bass Phenomenon) plus some nice non vocal beats (Flamenco Freddy), not least to forget the immensely soothing 'Summer Samba', so all in all you're getting the full spectrum of KK's super skills. The perfect album to entertain your mates too, listen to in the car, rotate whilst getting ready for a night out blah blah. I rarely give albums 5 stars until they have stood the test of time but this album isn't one to aspire for years to come, it's about enjoying the moment now. I'm pretty sure I will look back on this album with good memories. Freakshow will uplift you so if that's the order of the day and you like your music funky then you know what to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wackest beats ever, 7 April 2006
This review is from: Nuke Proof Suit (Audio CD)
It beggers belief that the two reviewers below gave this atrocity 5 stars (what is wrong with your ears!). The beats and basslines are fundametally all over the place which totally undermines any evidence of any decent lyrics. Some of the sampling/skits are just noise/nonsense, supposedly there to give this production some sort of 'concept' but they merely add to the afwulness of this cd. What makes it worse you only get 8 tracks for your dollar so 5 tracks in and you know with only several remaining it isn't going to get any better..in fact it just gets worse. This is the worst cd I have ever bought. I like alot of Jehst's previous work, in particular 'Return of the Drifter' but Nuke Proof Suit is hugely dissapointing and I couldnt live with myself if I didn't say anything to oppose those giving this 5 stars, you clearly have ears full of wack!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw B-boy Beats, 8 Dec. 2004
This review is from: Flowtation Device (Audio CD)
I've been a big fan of abdominal ever since getting hold of some of his stuff with Format via my interests the Puma Strut label, real quality underground chilled funky hip hop, and that's exactly what you get here.
I'f you've listened to Music For The Mature B-boy then this is a real treat, a long-player which is more downtempo than it's predecessor but just as fresh.
The album lacks a bit of bite but thats what this music is all about, it kind of just floats around the room, inciting a really chilled atmosphere. There's some good beats and loops on offer as well as some really catchy tracks which are sure to get you're head noddin, which are just too cool for those people that sit around all day noddin their heads to MTV base etc.
The standout track for me is 'Elizabeth', compiling elements of raw, jangly guitar and deep baseline, with it's catchy lyrical substance, interelating in creating something which is mellow but yet bangin' at the same time, that's what it's all about
Fresh & Funky. Highly Recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars Bangurang Benny, Bangurang, 8 Dec. 2004
Well what can I say, I picked up this cd from the reception at the hotel I was staying in whilst on holiday in Ibiza, and it really encaptured the euphoria of the moment. Me and my mates often used cd1 to warm up for a big night out clubbing. CD1 is more easy-listening but a very varied mix, some tracks soulful, some more drumbeat-oriented and others more electro-based but all in all a good dose of house.
CD2 is all about big electro baselines and loops, and is therefore a slightly harder listen, but all is all good as benassi has picked a good selection of tracks which don't incite you to start skipping, which ofcourse is good.
If you like soulful funky house you'll like some of the stuff on this, likewise, if you prefer you're more late night hard hittin stuff, you'll like this cd. I'd recommend it to any fan of house
Standout tracks, look out for Buddha Soul Project, Dave Clarke, Francesco Farfa, Harry Romero and Who Da Funk, just some to mention

New York - A Mix Odyssey
New York - A Mix Odyssey

5.0 out of 5 stars At last...... Some Originality, 25 Nov. 2004
I bought this cd the day before me and my mates went to Ibiza in the summer of 2004. This cd was on constant rotation for the entire 2 weeks and all my mates have bought their own copies since we got back.
The tracklist is a belter, mixing dimensions of rock, house and contemporary dance music, old and new. Because the sound is so varied, you'll be listening to this cd for months.
Stand out tracks are AB/DC 'This Feelin', Aloud 'Rocky XIII'and Armand Van Helden feat. La Rok 'Let Me Lead You', nevertheless, each track brings something different to the mix
I would recommend this album to absolutely everyone

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how we chill from 93 til.............., 25 Nov. 2004
This review is from: 93 Til Infinity (Audio CD)
I don't know about you, but I'm sick of all that MTV base style gangster rubbish, because it's aload of pants. This album, however, is brilliant.
It's an old school flavoured player but sounds just as fresh as anything out there, making you percieve that it was recorded only yesterday. It's an absolute classic and a must for any hip hop fan who prefers a slightly more distinctive and experimental sound in oppose to the more commercial side of the genre. Likewise, if you appreciate the foundations of hip hop then you'll love this stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Less Buzz But Plenty Of Fuzz, 14 May 2004
Let's face it, 'Music For The Mature B-boy was special, it connoted all that was fresh and funky. DJ Format has been obviously spent hours rummaging through his record bins to wip out some of the tracks on this new mixtape 'A Right Earful'. Theres a blend of old and new, and the album withholds a similar fresh feel but is slightly more laid back and more 'block party' orientated....I can alsmost see me wippin up a sizzling BBQ on a summers evenin with my mates with this cd on, its pretty damn cool. Apart from the rap theres some more mellow, twisted soul type tracks which adss to the mix.
This album won't hit you like Music For The Mature B-boy did, but lets face it that was like hitting a brick wall it was so good. A Right Earful makes a good, interesting listen that will keep you satisfied throughout the summer while at the same time introducing you to some long lost forgotten artists which sound as if they were producing these hits only yesterday

3.0 out of 5 stars So Bad it's Brilliant, 18 Jan. 2004
This review is from: Freddy Got Fingered [DVD] (DVD)
This is an unconventional, crazy and bowel churning film but if you are judging it on laughs, then it's a winner. Tasteless, pointless, brilliant. It's embarrassing to watch at times, does that boy have any pride

5.0 out of 5 stars These ARE the breaks....., 14 Nov. 2003
This double cd is sweet. I don't usually go for this sort of thing, I'm more of Masters at Work kind of lad but I heard some sound samples and it seemed a good investemnt. This Krafty Kuts cd just god damn funky. The first cd (Hip Hop and Funky Beats) is class funky hip hop (how did you guess!) stylee mix which just makes you wanna move. It's got a really uplifting, fresh feeling about it and is simply mint. Cd2 presents us with a veritable feast of breaks and beats, which is basically aload of very fast, very funky tunes. Loads of funk, loads of vocals, loads of class. Why don't we hear more of this stuff, I'll be keeping a close eye of any future releases from Krafty Kuts. This connotes phunkiness
