5.0 out of 5 stars Hell awaits..., 13 May 2014
Chantal Noordeloos brings a fresh voice to the question… what is hell?
With a pleasing clarity of style she paints a vivid and blood soaked picture of one man’s eager journey into the afterlife. Despite not holding back on the darkness, be warned this isn’t for the weak of heart, this is not a gratuitous tale of gore. Instead its an intriguing and entertaining exploration of evil and pride with convincing characterization and setting.
Intelligent and horrible, lean and entertaining, I enjoyed this very much. Fans of Sandman or Hellblazer will feel right at home as will lovers of traditional literary horror. Well worth exploring…

Boot Boys of the Wolf Reich
Boot Boys of the Wolf Reich
by David Agranoff
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a read..., 18 April 2014

Boot boys? Check! Nazis? Check! Werewolves? Check! Does what it says on the cover then… nothing more to see here… but wait! Although this book serves these genre elements out with great visceral finesse, it’s the soft underbelly that will draw you in. Agranoff creates a cast of believable characters existing within a subculture that he obviously understands and has a great affection for. There is romance and coming of age within these pages as well as well crafted historical context. The band quotes at the start of each chapter add authenticity to the experience. I know little about skinhead culture, neither fascist nor multi-culturally embracing, and Illinois is a long way from home, but I loved being immersed in this world. This was skillfully done. Plus, you know…Nazi Werewolves! Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The intriguing world of Coyote..., 29 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A snappy introduction to the world of Coyote and the woman herself. A blend of wild west, science fiction and steampunk with an emphasis on creating a strong world and character development, this debut left me intrigued as to where Ms Noordeloos will take this twisting tale next.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weakwood., 19 Sep 2011
An interesting concept stretched out boringly for ten hours. Love of the lead characters may drag you along but you'll be left feeling empty and wishing you could have that ten hours back. It's just not that well written, directed, acted... you name it. It's a c grade average piece of over all dullness put together VERY BADLY! Lovely to see a couple of the guest stars but they weren't used well and tbh the American and Welsh sections didn't really gel well. Poor. Watch something else. There are much more interesting things in the world!

Mustaine: A Life in Metal
Mustaine: A Life in Metal

1.0 out of 5 stars Moan Moan Yawn..no wonder Metallica kicked him out., 20 Nov 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For me this book has one redeeming point. It now seems quite obvious why Metallica threw Mustaine out. The man's a whining pain, an unpleasant drunk and an utter bore. I can imagine Metallica wincing at the idea of spending a career alongside him. Certainly no one else ever managed it! How they must sigh in relief as they hear him still crying about not being in Metallica nearly three decades later. How they must shudder at this born again junkie banging on about the four songs he once wrote on a demo so long ago.
Similarly to Nikki Sixx's book we hear a lot about how horrible his mummy was. Similarly we hear how tough it must be to be a total light weight who gets hooked on smack the first chance he gets. Another millionaire who, when living the dream, spent most of it moaning and arguing with his band mates. What a disappointing jerk.
Of course, he must have done some interesting things in his time. Don't expect to hear about them in this weakly ghost written excuse for a book. Waste of time.

Ignore the strange man who thinks the studio didn't make enough billions yet... These are the inferior versions.
Cinematic is NOT defined as the version you saw in the cinema... these are NOT the versions Jackson wanted us to see.
Ignore them.

Interestingly shot and edited this is somehow too dull and disjointed to really rate classic status. Hard to care about most of the unintelligent and thinly portrayed characters. One thing though - if you thought Italy was all style and good living check this out - the ghettos are a disgrace. Worth a watch but not really essential. I can only think the rest of the Italian film industry must be dreadful for this to get so much attention!

It's amusing to see the level of defensiveness of other reviewers who for some reason found this movie entertaining. I say good for them but have to state that the critics are right. This is a terrible script, a boring story and visually pointless. Don't get me wrong, I love stupid popcorn movies when they're done right but this is just wrong on every level. There's nothing to see here, there really isn't. I think you can tell who you should believe when 'other reviewers' start defending the Wachovski's cash in sequels to the Matrix which were equally dumb and tedious and served only to prove that the original was a great idea and a fluke. I think we can thank the cinematographers and fight co-ordinators for that one.
So... don't bother. Simply put, there's much better nonsense out there that will actually be entertaining. It may sound extreme but this could be the worst film I've seen this century!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull and fuzzy...., 31 Aug 2008
First, a quick note for Blu-Ray fans... don't bother paying extra for HD. Visually this film is doesn't impress and is not noticably enhanced by the format.
Unlike other reviewers I won't trot out the rather linear plot. Suffice to say Jack Black struggles with an unfunny script as the rather predictable and ridiculous story unfolds. In a somewhat pathetic way the film pays homage to community but if your moved emotionally by this then you're probably pregnant! (No offence meant hormone sisters!).
All in all it won't kill you to watch it but I can't see why you should waste your time on watching such a sloppy piece of work let alone buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...., 25 Aug 2008
Ok, like me you're probably not one to buy many musicals but you digg Burton and Depp. What to do?
Well, here's my take... in simple terms;
It looks great.
The songs vary from dull to quite amusing. Not that catchy or classic but the odd one is amusing.
The story line is OK, fairly basic.
The actors perform well and the leads are charismatic.
Conclusion? Meh... you know, it's OK. That about sums it up. There are better and worse places to spend your money! Sorry to be tepid about the whole affair but that's how I feel. If you must, buy it but you won't be missing much if you don't!
Not a stunning blu-ray either.
