5.0 out of 5 stars So weird. So good!, 30 Aug 2012
I loved this book. I devoured it in just two days. It's both funny and scary... and weird. What I loved most was the descriptions of Sammy's family and the people he meets, done in the form of animal classification. Brilliant. It was like a spooky Wimpy Kid. Buy it, read it, love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on to your musket!, 13 Mar 2012
The world Mason has created here is marvelous - Port Fayt is a busy bustling port town you can see, hear, touch and even at times smell(!). Ideal for a fantasy adventure.

So many characters shine out through the story. Joseph Grubb is the put upon half-goblin boy that finds his rightful place in life through his loyalty and his bravery. The nasty fairy Slik is wonderfully tricksy. And Tabitha is fiesty, brave, quick-thinking and flawed. There might be a better female character in children's literature, but I've yet to come across one.

Action-packed + funny + skulduggary = What's not to like!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 1984 for 2012, 3 Jan 2012
This review is from: Dark Parties (Paperback)
A brilliant book. Just as creepy as anything Orwell could conjure up, and just as realistic as a horrifically possible future. I loved (hated!) the world Grant created below the protectosphere.

Neva wants to escape this world and find out what has happened to The Missing - including her beloved Grandmother. But is it worth risking everything she cares about? Including her best friend Sanna?

Trouble is, Neva has fallen for Sanna's boyfriend and it seems he feels the same way.

Paced superbly, it kept me gripped until the very end. Great stuff.

The Poisoned House
The Poisoned House

5.0 out of 5 stars To be read by candlelight... if you dare!, 3 Aug 2010
This review is from: The Poisoned House (Paperback)
Poor Abi is a servant working at the ill-fated Greave Hall. The book follows her desperate attempts to escape her situation. But with both parents dead, where can she run? She's left at the mercy of the vicious housekeeper Mrs Cotton and Lord Greave, a man who is slowly losing his mind.

Atmospheric from the start, The Poisoned House was a gripping read. With the traditional feel of a campfire ghost story set in a haunted mansion, I was instantly drawn in. But with each twist along the way I was placed deeper and deeper under its spell.

Fabulous from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars I forsee that you'll love this books., 12 Jun 2009
This is a fantastic idea for a series. 5 girls all get a tarot readings at a hen night and wait to see if they come true. This first one is about Fern, she's a bit skeptical about fortune tellers but she can't deny her prophecy by the end. Even though it comes true in a way she didn't imagine.

I loved it. It's really funny. Can't wait for the next one.
