5.0 out of 5 stars Truly amazing, 28 Nov 2011
This review is from: Alloy (Audio CD)
This is a truly amazing album. I've always been amazed at Amanda Somerville's vocals, but I had no idea she is such a great songwriter as well. This album showcases her talents brilliantly, from her powerful vocals, to her sublime lyrics and music. There are no weak songs here at all. I cannot recommend this album highly enough. An absolute must have! I can't stop listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, 11 July 2007
This review is from: Baptism By Fire (Audio CD)
This is an absolute corker of an album. Fergie Frederiksen is one of the best vocalists ever. The vocals he did on the classic Toto album "Isolation" were magnificent, and his overall contribution to that album, made it one of the best Toto albums ever. His work since then has been good, but nothing matched it until now.

This album is OUTSTANDING. There are no bad songs at all.

The tracks are heavier than i expected, but that is what makes them so brilliant. They are belted out with an energy and rawness that will totally blow you away.

The album is a collaboration between Fergie and Tommy Denander, who co-wrote the songs, did all the guitar work and produced the album. i hadn't heard of Tommy Denander before i got this cd, but i am a convert now. He is an amazing guitarist, and his work on this album is some of the best guitar work i have ever heard. This, coupled with Fergie's vocal talents, makes this album a breathtaking experience.

If you like melodic rock which is slightly more on the heavy side, and if you liked "Isolation", then this album is an absolute must - you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journey at their best, 19 Nov 2005
i saw the vhs version of this concert many years ago. it's been unavailable for a long time so i was overjoyed to discover this dvd was to be released. if you are a fan of Journey, or this type of music generally, you will absolutly love this dvd. it's one of the best concerts i've ever seen. the vocals of steve perry, combined with the guitar genius of neal schon and the keyboard brilliance of jonathan cain are a sight to behold. and with ross valory on bass and steve smith on drums, this was journey at their best!!!!
this dvd release has been produced by steve perry himself and it's a testament to the man that he is releasing this dvd together with a cd of the concert in the same package. he could have easily cashed in by releasing them separately but hasn't. does this man love the fans or wot!!!
this dvd will show us all how much we are missing steve perry. i read an interview with him recently where he confirmed that he will not be recording with journey again. in fact, he's not planning on doing any recording at all for some time, so this dvd will have to do for the time being.i know we wont be disappointed with it,but i'm sure we'll all be a little sad at what we are missing, and dead envoius of the lucky ones who were at this concert and saw journey at their best.

4.0 out of 5 stars good effort, 1 Sep 2005
After the excitement and action of First Contact, things slowed down a bit for this next film in the star trek series, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. there's a little more time for some charachter development, humor and some wonderful plot developments (Riker and troi rekindelling their romance for instance). it does drag a bit at times, but the pace picks up nicely in the second half to an exciting climax.
the film centers aroung picard defying starfleet orders to prevent 600 people from being uprooted from their planet. i do feel more could have been made of this. Kirk did a similar thing in Star Trek III and ended up stealing the enterprise, going to a forbidden planet and ultimately blowing the ship up. THAT'S how you disobey orders. picard on the other hand, merely hangs around when told to return to earth, makes a nuisance of himself and ends up arguing with an admiral - not quite in the same league.
Despite this there is still plenty to keep audiances entertained.
i was disappointed that there was no director's commentry. Jonathan Frakes came across really well on the commentery to First Contact, as genuinely nice guy who enjoys his flimaking, so i felt a little let down by the absence of any commentry here. he does make up for it in the movie, however, by showing us the best way to have a shave (the lucky git!!!).
All in all, a solid addition to the series and well worth adding to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rediscovered Gem, 4 Mar 2005
When this movie first came out i felt it was a bit of a let down. However, in hindsight i now know that the weight of expectation was so great that the final product could never live up to it.
Watching the movie now and i can appreciate it for what it is. a great movie which bridges the two generations in a clever, and touching way. the story is very good, with all the characters being used well, which is never easy when there are 7 main characters.
there are some minor gripes (eg. the enterprise is destroyed a bit too easily, but the fact it was destroyed is a very dramatic point in the film, and the crash-landing on the planet is better then any white knuckle ride i've ever been on). but these are only minor. Overall, this is an entertaining movie well worth another watch.
this special edition does have some nice extras all worth a watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars style with efficiency, 9 Jan 2005
i brought this kettle from amazon as it was cheaper than anywhere else. there are mixed reviews, but i've had no problems with it.
it does its job quietly and efficiently, in fact i've never known a kettle that's quieter. it's also the most stylish i've ever seen and sturdy with it. there have been negative comments about how slowly it pours, but i haven't found this to be a problem.
i'm sure there are cheaper kettles that do the job just as well but you'll not find one that looks better. so if you are willing to spend a bit more, this kettle is highly recommended to add real style to your kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars great liitle gizmo, 12 Jun 2004
this is a great little gizmo for your computer. i was getting fed up of having to use the track pad whenever i was watching a dvd on my laptop, especially in bed!!! so when i saw this item i thought my prayers were answered. i wasn't wrong.
the control does everything you'd expect from a dvd remote and can also be used for playing cd's etc. it's simple controls make it easy to use, even in the dark. it's small and thin making it really neat.
the infrared receiver fits into the usb port and is small and unobtrusive and the software loads in seconds. i use a mac powerbook and have had no problems with it.
and it looks cool too!!! highly recommended.
