Guardians of Stone (The Relic Seekers)
Guardians of Stone (The Relic Seekers)
by Anita Clenney
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.64

4.0 out of 5 stars First in the Relic Seekers Series, 1 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Guardians of Stone features Kendall Morgan who has a Sixth Sense. She spent her childhood hunting relics with her ambitious archeologist father, she knew that he too shared a Sixth Sense for the history and location of objects--sometimes even people. What she didn't know was that their paranormal gift could ultimately be their undoing.

When Kendal was around the age of 12, after searching for lost relics of the Protettori, her father, and Adam, her childhood best friend, were tragically killed in a plane crash. From that time Kendall dedicated her life to finding and protecting relics. When a mysterious, billionaire, Nathan Larraby hires her for his latest expedition--the search for four powerful relics, (but unknown to her, the relics of the Protettori) -- she too is thrown into a world of danger. Nathan sends mercenary Jake Stone to watch Kendall's back, but little did Nathan know that sparks would fly between them and danger of a different kind would be created.

As the team chases down clues, they discover that a man called the Reaper is also very interested in the artifacts and will stop at nothing to put them to his own use. Nathan has not been entirely truthful to Kendall and Jake and the dark secrets he's keeping could cost them their lives.

Anita Clenney introduces us to three strong, characters, each one with their own personal problems, but gradually as the novel unfolds we find out a little of what is behind these problems. Kendall is very inquisitive and often follows her sixth sense by reacting like a bull in a china shop. Jake on the other hand is extremely secretive and his main concern is the protection of Kendall. Immediately there is an attraction towards Kendall and it isn't long before he shows this but Kendall has mixed feelings. Nathan is also very mysterious and keeps his thoughts very close to his chest. Whilst he keeps important issues from Kendall & Jake, in his mind to protect them, this sometimes causes them to be put into extreme danger. It also turns out that there is a bit of a love triangle going on as he too has feelings for Kendall.

I found this book, which is the first in the series of `the Relic Seekers' novels, very much on the lines of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. I did enjoy it, but it was a little slow in parts and I felt sometimes the structure was lost a little. The ending certainly left you wanting to know what happened and to look forward to the second book in the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars More Naughty and Good Lists, 29 Dec 2012

I bought this as a stocking filler for my grandson who is 4, and whilst he listened to it intently, he didn't show his usual interest as he does in other books. So a bit of a disappointment.

The quality of the material is very good. I put it on a freshen up wash and when I came to iron it I just couldn't get it square, seems like the seams weren't aligned properly. Pity it rather spoils it

3.0 out of 5 stars Vikings and Celts, 18 Dec 2012
This review is from: Loki's Daughters (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This story is one of Vikings and Celts. There are two central characters, one is Arienh, a Celtic maiden, who takes charge of her village, because every man of fighting age is dead, and the village is left in the hands of the younger women. At the same time Arienh takes care of her sister, Birgit who was raped by Vikings and left for dead. Birgit's eye sight is failing and Arienh helps her take care of her illegitimate son, Liam.
Every day they live in fear of Viking invasion. Then, one stormy evening, a Viking warrior surprises Arienh has she is coming back from the fields. She severely wounds him with a small dagger but cannot leave him there and takes him back to her cottage, where she tends his wounds with herbs.

More Vikings come searching for the man whose name is Ronan, the second central character. The Vikings begin to take over the empty huts in the village with the idea of living there and taking the women for their wives, but that won't be an easy task as the women make it extremely difficult for these Viking men. However, feelings start to take over and that is where I will close my synopsis, so as not to spoil it for you.

One final comment is that this is the second novel by Delle Jacobs, the previous one being Faerie and I have to say, the plot was very similar, i.e boy meets girl and the chase that ensues. So much so, I was slightly disappointed with Loki's Daughters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half Faerie, Half Human, 29 Nov 2012
This review is from: Faerie (Kindle Edition)
Like her mother before her, Leonie of Bosewood carries Faerie blood in her veins, a secret she holds to protect her own life. For although the people of eleventh-century England believe in magic, their ignorance and fear have made "being different" a very dangerous prospect. She does her best to hide her magical abilities, mindful that being different in medieval England is tantamount to death. Caught between the worlds of human and Faerie, yet not fully belonging to either, Leonie must guard her heart...no matter how strong the temptations. However her untamed spirit and wild beauty are like a beacon to the one man whose attention could expose her.

Philippe le Peregrine has devoted his life to the crown, his strength and courage winning him the king's gratitude. In return he asks but one indulgence: never to be forced to take a wife.
As the king's emissary, Philippe le Peregrine has watched Leonie mature from gangly girl to alluring woman. With each meeting, his attraction grows, but he knows a relationship between them can never be. Why? Because Philippe hides his own secret, a curse condemning him to celibate solitude. He faces life without the one woman whose allure he cannot ignore. As unseen forces gather, preparing for a mystical battle for domination over the human world, Leonie and Philippe realise that only together are they strong enough to conquer the engulfing evil.

This is the first Della Jacobs book I have read and I thought it was ok, albeit quite slow to take off. Lots of words used and not really needed.
