1.0 out of 5 stars Andrew Marr's bank account is bursting!, 27 Jun. 2011
I have watched this serious after taking hedex tablets for the presenter jumps about like the preverbial kangaroo. His excitement at getting this commission is obvious but he is boring, repetative and leaves you none the wiser. This is yet another BBC money making scam by treating the viewrs as stupid, dumb, coach potatoes. I would suggest that in order to learn about cities, even mega-cities you would be best to read the UN Habitat reports on their websites. They are more explanetory and useful than Marr's foghorn salutations. Every city has its good and bad points and only we as a species can change the future of our planet to one of economical, environmental and social sustainable developement. Buy the dvd but think about the cost of getting rid of the plastic packaging and the number of dvd's like this that end up in landfill!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brighten up your dull life, 27 Jun. 2011
This is a neat book for learning the basics of elements 9. It is clear in its writing, covering all the main points and points you in the direction of linked chapters/themes. The photos are a good checks and balance system to make sure your on the right track when manipulating pictures. It starts off gently and then goes into more detail as required without too many technical terms. I would recommend this book to those just starting out in using this software as an easy introduction. However, I do think sticking a manual on a cd as is the case with elements package, is nonsense and photoshop should stop this habit because you really need a manual in front of you and not have to click in and out of screen upon screen. Adobe may call this sustainability but I call it cheapening the experience and leaving users scratching their heads. Adobe manuals tend to be terrible and you certainly need a plain english guide to using elements. Well here it is. Enjoy folks.

2.0 out of 5 stars My feet are soaking wet!, 10 Jun. 2011
I bought these boots about a year ago and they fitted comfortably with little breaking in time required. They do fit well, with reasonable grip and traction on tracks, heathland, moorland, grass slopes, forests, and in bogs to some extent. However the front of the boots became scuffed very quickly and since then have had to be continually polished to stop the boots looking like second hand hand-me downs. they won't grip mould on rocks when crossing rivers so be careful and use your walking poles for balance. The boots are missing a larger rand to protect the front of the boots from scuffs. They also need to be proofed regularly to maintain waterproofness and the leather quality. But they are heavy on the feet and your achilles heel will soon stop you enjoying your walks. I would look at cheaper, lighter and better protected at the front type boots and avoid scarpa's boots altogether. They lack the quality of some of the german brands and the styling of berghaus and others.

2.0 out of 5 stars That sinking feeling, 27 Mar. 2011
This review is from: Canal Walks (Paperback)
This book is for romantic and nostalgic folk who like to wander down memory lane when the industrial age saw many of our canals being used like motorways to move goods and people across the country. It captures the sentimentality of the past but also the hope and potential of our much disused and often neglected waterway systems. Now I have walked down canals in my city. Usually very quickly and try to avoid the dog mess, litter, shopping trolleys, needles and a plethora of dumped household and municipal items. But as always this is brushed aside for walks along some cleaned up and well maintained waterways depicted in the book. How long these remain so given the cutbacks affecting councils across the country remains to be seen. Nevertheless, a worthy book to read and some choice walks perhaps in your area though certainly not in mine. Enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars All washed out!, 31 Jan. 2011
I ordered this from Amazon and needed it urgently to unblock an external drain. It arrived via courier broken so I had to return it. A waste of time and expense and no apology from amazon customer services. And no reimbursement for the inconvenience. So I called in a plumber and had the drain unblocked. Having done research on the net and talking to plumbers the brand above is not recommended with many units failing after 2 or 3 uses. So, I would look for something more robust. I have also noted Karcher are selling refurbished units on their website for the same price of a new one . This company just comes across as dodgy whichever way you look at it. Also, Poor customer service because initially I sent them emails and heard nothing before returning item. Save your energy and money buy british!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's my University copy card?, 26 Jan. 2011
I bought this book thinking it was a reprinted version of the original book. Instead I received a book with a flashy cover and photocopied pages inside. To make matters worse the photocopies used contains pages where students had underlined sentences within the text. What a sheer disappointment. I don't think this is worth the money, sorry but a real con if ever there was one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Punjabi popadoms!, 30 Dec. 2010
This book is complicated and covers indian punjabi not the actual language spoken by those in the punjab who are mainly Muslim. Its like learning to speak glaswegian but using a geordie dictionary. It is also dated with few words still in use.

5.0 out of 5 stars X MARKS THE SPOT, 30 Dec. 2010
I have been a gamer for decades and played almost all consoles out there from way back to the current line of units. I can honestly say despite its technical problems the current range of xbox's are machines made for gamers and that the xbox live gold membership unleashes a whole new dimension to gaming. It isn't new but maintaining the price for a years subscription is great value. I know ps3 owners will be laughing because they think they can go online free etc etc. But look at the poor quality of offerings you get from Sony. I have been there and done it and can say matter of fact when I took my ps3 back to Game and exchaged it for the Nintendo Wii it was the best move I ever made. Anyway back to the live card. It is good value for money. So buy it and get online for mad fun with your chums. Just remember to take a break regularly from gaming. Someone's got to put the bins out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well I never...., 18 Aug. 2010
I think this is a well written book and intermediate entry into the beautiful religion that is Islam. I have learnt more about Islam, its cuture, differences amongst sects, past battles and the life of Mohammed reading this than any priest in the mosque has ever taught me. It has cleared many things that troubled me as I grew up and explained why there is a battle going on for the hearts and minds of Moslims across the world to return to the real essence of Islam and not the corrupted teachings that are appearing en masse in Islamic countries. The book is a joy to read, well written narrative and great references also. If you want something that is historically compelling and relevantly factual then I would recommend this book. Peace be with you dear reader.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's hammer time!, 20 Jun. 2009
Sarah has written yet another book espousing what the common man or woman should have already thought about before entering any building project. So the need to produce a series or write another book is questionable at a time when repossesions are rising faster than a Warburtun's loaf. Having looked at the book it comes across as if it was ghost written for her, partly based on scripts and then cobbled together. The advice is fair but repetitive and sometimes so basic that it makes me wonder if she is preaching to the hard of understanding. What would have been better is for Sarah to ask a psychologist to sit with her and write a book about how individuals can overcome their ego's and learn to manage a project without the tantrums and tiaras shown on television; something on the lines of 'a long guide to short tempers'. Anyway I didn't enjoy the book and the only way to profit from property is to buy abroad in countries not affiliated to the EU. Afterall Turkey's done well thus far.
