A thoroughly enjoyable read, 8 Aug 2012
Very well written and a very enjoyable read. I ended up staying up late to finish it!
The story follows that of a fictitious young shepherd boy called Dan, living in the early first century. It thoughtfully follows his thoughts and musings as he struggles to understand the world around him and the way it fits with his jewish beliefs and promises of the coming Messiah. Asking as many questions as it answers.
The story weaves from amusement to tragedy and back to joy, while at the same time being an everyday story of everyday life in Israel at the time.
While not being an 'in your face' religious book, it manages to be thought provoking and entertaining as it looks at how the promised coming of Messiah would be seen by ordinary people in their everyday lives.
I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the sequels.
