5.0 out of 5 stars Stayed up late - Again!, 1 Feb 2013

I would disagree with another reviewer that Allie isn't growing up. I think she's learning and growing well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I have the previous books. Stayed up late to finish it - Again! The magic concept is intriguing as are the twists on that concept. And Allie is a flawed yet honest character who tries to learn from her mistakes - Even when she's relying on second hand accounts of them because she can't remember what they were! I'm off to download the next one now...

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable read, 8 Aug 2012
This review is from: A Time to Hear (Paperback)
Very well written and a very enjoyable read. I ended up staying up late to finish it!
The story follows that of a fictitious young shepherd boy called Dan, living in the early first century. It thoughtfully follows his thoughts and musings as he struggles to understand the world around him and the way it fits with his jewish beliefs and promises of the coming Messiah. Asking as many questions as it answers.
The story weaves from amusement to tragedy and back to joy, while at the same time being an everyday story of everyday life in Israel at the time.
While not being an 'in your face' religious book, it manages to be thought provoking and entertaining as it looks at how the promised coming of Messiah would be seen by ordinary people in their everyday lives.

I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the sequels.
