An excellently-judged spoof of Sci-Fi Conventions, nostalgia and fandom in general. The cast of 1980s cult sci-fi show, the titualar 'Galaxy Quest' are called upon to help a race of peaceful aliens battle an evil force beyond our world. Leading the cast is Tim Allen as the bombastic star, Jason Nesmith; Sigourney Weaver excels as the sarcastic Gwen DeMarco, but the shining star is the late, great Alan Rickman, who plays Alexander Dane - a failed Shakespearean actor with a rueful past.

It's very tongue-in-cheek and extremely enjoyable. Recommended.

I wanted to see this before the sequel was released at the cinema. The plot involves the four Ninja Turtles acting as vigilantes in New York City. Local newshound April O'Neil (played by the increasingly-rigid features of Megan Fox) discovers something odd happening on the rooftops and decides to investigate. Later on, she discovers that the turtles were once her childhood pets and that she saved their lives from a fire, along with their rat mentor/leader, thus releasing them all into NYC's sewer system and a life of wonder.

In conclusion: it's ok, nothing special.

One wonders why the titual character, Ricki, ever decided to dump her husband and family to be able to play dodgy covers in dive bars(!) That said, she makes a good point about how unfair it is that men are allowed to exhibit certain behaviours and women are not. Meryl Streep gives a coompetent performance as Ricki Rendazzo and performs all of the songs, along with the band. Unfortunately, she takes the whole 'rock chick' thing a little too far and sports copious amounts of leather and a side braided hairstyle throughout (even to her son's wedding!)

The film's a bit 'nah' really. I suppose it shows Streep's versatility as an actress/performer though.

I kind of knew what to expect when I rented this film, but the sheer amount of gurning and grunting wasn't conducive to a pleasurable viewing experience. I limped on for twenty-five minutes or so, then gave up. I really think that the Director, Mike Leigh, should stick to social realism and give historical biopics a wide berth - a previous film, Topsy Turvy, is another prime example of this.

Delonghi Traditional Pump Espresso Coffee Machine, 1100 W, Black
Delonghi Traditional Pump Espresso Coffee Machine, 1100 W, Black

4.0 out of 5 stars Delonghi Traditional Pump Expresso Coffee Machine, 17 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was purchased to replace my Delonghi Bean-To-Cup machine which broke off at the steam nozzle and as we are all aware, domestic machines are not fixable(!) It's back to basics with this traditional pump expresso machine, but as it was rated a 'Best Buy' on the Which? website, I thought that I'd give it a whirl. It's simple to use - grind your beans or place pre-ground coffee into the portafilter, which has three different attachments - one for one cup, another for two cups and a final one for ESE pods; use the tamper to squash the coffee, place it in the hole, tighten and there you go. There aren't many bells and whistles on this machine, so it has a on/off button; a rinse/coffee selection and finally, a steam button, which is operated via the dial on the top of the machine. There's also a cup warmer on the top.

So, after two days of use and five cups of coffee, am I happy with my purchase? Well, yes, obviously it's unfair to compare it to my previous machine, but it's much more petite, looks nice and produces great espressos (even an Italian builder said so!). My main bugbear at the moment is the dripping issue, which was also noted on the Which? review. I tend to place a small espresso cup underneath afterwards to catch the drips and emptying the drip tray is fairly simple.

For the price point, it makes great coffee and doesn't take up a huge amount of room, which is surely two great reasons for purchasing this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars 3M Precise Mousing Surface and Gel Wrist Rest, 17 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I am currently typing and testing this product at the same time and boy - the wrist pad is hard an unyielding! So much so that I've turned it sideways to avoid further discomfort; a quick prod of the padding gives the impression that it wouldn't really soften up much in the future either. It's also a little too high for me and places my wrist up in a strange position, which causes discomfort in the longer run. As for the pad itself - well the surface is nice and slippery, but the size, well it's not big enough if you were, for example, working on larger documents or A3 paper.

Also, what's a 'Precise Mousing Surface'? Is it something my cat would appreciate?

In conclusion: it's far too much to pay for something I'm going to have to consign to a drawer.

Command MR12-SS-ES Medium Modern Metal Hook with 1 Hook/2 Strips
Command MR12-SS-ES Medium Modern Metal Hook with 1 Hook/2 Strips
Price: £4.49

5.0 out of 5 stars 3M Adhesive Hook, 17 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I afixed this metal hook to the wall near my back door to hang keys and umbrellas. It was simple to use - it's just a case of peeling the adhesive strip, placing it on the wall, pressing down for 30 seconds and then putting the metal hook on top. So, was it fit for purpose? Yes, it did hold up a bunch of keys and an umbrella's weight without undue strain. I cannot comment on the ease of removal a yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to report back. I guess this product would also prove useful in a cafe/bar setting for affixing handbags to.

In conclusion: a handy, easy to use proud at a competitive price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bissell Lift Off Carpet Cleaner, 15 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a huge hulking machine, which is a consideration in regard to storage. The build quality is fairly plasticky. Assembly is fairly simple, although a very long screwdriver is essential and some of the screws are placed in at a strange angle. The plug extension is long, but in my opinion, could be a little longer; unfortunately it doesn't completely retract and leaves the end hanging down. Due to its size, it can be difficult to manoeuvre and may be an issue for those with mobility issues. The cleaning reservoirs are simple to fill and remove.

On the minus side, it uses an awful lot of solution, which could prove expensive in the longer term. That said, the spray is effective. The suction is poor - for example, we went over our sitting room rug 5-6 times, but the machine didn't remove the solution effectively. The rug did look much cleaner afterwards though.

In conclusion: not a good enough product to justify the high price tag.

Philip's Children's Atlas (World Atlas)
Philip's Children's Atlas (World Atlas)

Price: £11.38

5.0 out of 5 stars Philip's School Atlas: Children's Atlas, 15 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My son is currently in year 4 and studies different countries in Geography, as per the KS2 curriculum. This hardback book, which is published in conjunction with The Royal Geographic Society, provides a great overview to the world around us. It is divided into sections, namely: Our Planet Earth; Europe; Asia; Africa; The Pacific; North America; South America and The Arctic and Antarctica. I must admit, even as a parent, there was an awful lot of information contained within the full colour pages and as a quiz fiend myself, it was really interesting.

In conclusion: a bright, informative and comprehensive study aide. Recommended.

Post-it 25mm x 43.2mm Index Sign Here Flags (50 Sheets)
Price: £3.65

5.0 out of 5 stars Post-It Note Flags, 14 April 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I was sent plain Post-It tabs and not the 'sign here' variant as shown above. I must admit, after a career spent in the public sector, these tabs were one of my favourite items of stationery ever. I tended to use them for marking official briefing, but they're also useful for highlighting pages in study books, recipes and quite frankly, a great deal of other stuff. The bonus is that they don't leave a sticky residue on the pages. It is best to write on them it ballpoint pens though, as they don't run.

In conclusion: a great product sold at a competitive price.
