3.0 out of 5 stars Mulholland Drive ... Atmospheric, dark film !, 9 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Strange film .... Caught it on the horror channel about a month ago ... Naomi
Watts gives a good performance here as
well as performing in some lesbian scenes in order to bring in a sexual interest to the viewer .... It's a mixed up
film that involves two Hollywood actresses, Rita and Betty.
Rita was involved initially in a car crash accident at a place she recalls was Mulholland Drive where it occurred ...
For most of the film they are trying to chase the whereabouts of this place in order to investigate Rita's identity which she couldn't recall because of memory loss and imsomnia attributed to the car accident...they both get caught up in their own fantasies and delusions and at the
climax of the film Betty (Naomi Watts)
becomes jealous of Rita and experiences
hallucinations and hysteria which lead to
her suicidally shooting herself !
.. Great film with awesome music score making the film very enjoyable and atmospheric. Directed by David Lynch.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's Dooley time !!!, 9 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Best Of The Dooleys (Audio CD)
Wanted to collect some late 70's music nostalgia ... Bought all the Blondie, ABBA, Roxy Music vinyl and rarities back then but missed out on The Dooleys, Brotherhood of Man etc.. They're not
really my cup of tea but I enjoy listening
to their tunes like Wanted, The Chosen Few and Honey I'm Lost which I have seen recently performed on Top of the Pops 1979 alongside acts like Lena Lovich performing Lucky Number ...
Been watching some clips of them on
U-Tube as well ... What a year in pop 1979 was ....Disco was fading, Punk and
New Wave were progressing and then came the birth of Gary Numan with all his
synth pop allies ... Electro pop and New
Romanticism were to become the benchmark of early 80's Britain and this
is the era I'm most find of with acts like
Human League, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode
and Ultravox coming onto our TV
screens ! ... Dooleys only get a two star rating here as they clearly do not match
the music of my synthpop icons which I
admire with great passion !

5.0 out of 5 stars Rage - Carol Decker belts out her songs with Heart and Soul, 8 Oct 2013
This review is from: Rage (Audio CD)
This album was the follow up to the hugely successful 1987 Bridge of Spies album... It contains three great singles
'Secret Garden', 'Only the Lonely' and 'Road to Our Dream', which surprisingly didn't make the Top 40 .....
I bought this album on tape when I was a skint Chemistry student living in Nottingham ... Listening to this album again
on a superior CD copy now helps me to remember those hard times .... Carol Decker really belts out the vocals here with such clout .... I think this album is great to listen to if you fancy a big slanging match with someone who's recently upset you
.... Rage is certainly an appropriate album title .... Shame I missed them recently on their T'Pau 25 tour ...
Great album, definitely worth checking out !

5.0 out of 5 stars Top rate folk horror - Angel Blake played by Linda Hayden is her finest moment on film !, 31 Aug 2013
Well what can I say about this film other than an absolute classic .... This is one of my favourite horror films of all
time and rates as No.1 on my list of favourite horror films .... This folk horror film is a very creepy and spooky film
with a great soundtrack by Mark Wilkinson that adds to the flavour of the film .... The location shots are very spooky
and menacing ... The film begins with a lonely ploughman, Ralph Gower calling to his mistress, Cathy Vespers over the valley
.... the music then suddenly goes very creepy as the viewer knows that something frightening is going to happen as the ploughman suddenly unearths what looks like a human skull buried in the earth .... and exposes an eyeball left in the socket of the skull with an earthworm crawling on it .... The mood of the film is really brilliant as we're taken into the opening credits and Wilkinson music score ... What makes this film work is the low camera angle shots and disturbing scenes of woodland and the countryside that give it an awesome creepy and eerie feel and adds to the witchcraft that is taking place
.... These scenes are perfected by director Piers Haggard and superb photography from Dick Bush ... I think I recall that most of the location shots were taken around the countryside of Buckinghamshire in a village called Bix ..... The ploughman goes on to report his find to a local Judge, Patrick Wymark and when returning to the scene finds that the skull has somehow disappeared .... The Judge immediately concludes that no such being had ever been there .... Later the central character in
the film, Angel Blake (played by saucy sexpot actress Linda Hayden who was I believe only seventeen at the time and had only done one previous horror film for Hammer, Taste the Blood of Dracula)....Well an Angel she certainly ain't !! She corrupts the local youngster of the village into forming an occult Devil Worshipping group that goes around murdering each other
to supply limbs for a Satanic figure they are worshipping who marks the children with hairy patches on their skin ...
Michelle Dotrice (Frank Spencer's Betty) also appears in the film when there is a shocking rape scene and murder.
She later has a patch of the hairy skin removed from her leg by a local doctor after the locals chase her and throw her in the
lake and assume she's a witch .... This is a great film from Tigon that was released in the early 70s and is very much regarded
as an accompanying film to Witchfinder General also made by Tigon a couple of years earlier .... This film was done on a low
budget whereby it would have been impossible to pay wages for the top horror actors Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing to have
starring roles ... However the cast in the film are still remarkable and deliver outstanding performances ... This is a must
for all horror fans who have loved the Wicker Man and Witchfinder General ... A definite must have !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb solo album fro ex-Kraftwerk member, 26 Aug 2013
This review is from: Off The Record (Audio CD)
Bought this solo album from Karl Bartos since I've been a devotional follower of all of Kraftwerk's output ....
Thought it would be an ideal listen as Karl had been a original member of this great inspirational synth-pop pioneering quartet
in their most productive heyday era with albums like Trans Europe Express (1977) and Computer World (1981)....
The last album that he actually collaborated on was 1986's Electric Café and the band now with only one remaining founder
member, Ralph Hutter have only released one studio album since then in 2003, the mediocre Tour De France Soundtracks.
You may recall that Karl Bartos also collaborated with the talents of Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr and their 1996 Electronic
album Raise the Pressure .... On this solo album their are some great experimental tracks including the lead single, Atomium ... I am quite fond of other tracks such has Rythmus, The Binary Code, Vox Humania and Hausmusik ... A lot of the
tracks sound very much like they belong on a Kraftwerk record anyway with the unmistakeable characteristic typical Germanic minimalistic vocal and unique synthesiser sound that this former band made popular.... Indeed, this became the template for many of the other New Romantic and Futuristic synthesiser derivative bands like Human League, Depeche Mode, OMD and Ultravox that were to follow and become popular in the early 1980's .... Great album, definitely worth checking out !

5.0 out of 5 stars Midge Ure and band back together in 2012... more tha Brilliiant !, 13 Aug 2013
This review is from: Brilliant (Audio CD)
Been a fan of this band for a long time .... Been to see them on their recent comeback tours Return to Eden in 2009/ 2010
and also the tour for this album ... Even had the opportunity to meet my all time pop hero Midge Ure after one of his solo
gigs at Rotherham Civic Theatre .... The album sounds very fresh compared to their classic hits from their 80s heyday ...
Some great tracks here including Live, Hello, Lie and the album closer, Contact .... There's also two slower tracks on this album, One and Fall ... but I feel that this breaks up the albums more upbeat songs .... Bought this the day it came out
on May 28th, 2012 ... a day I will always treasure in my life ... buying a brand new Ultravox album 26 years on from their
last offering U-Vox in 1986 .... Great to see this awesome band back together again after all these years ... Let's hope they're planning to stay around for a while and carry on releasing some more newer materisl ... Midge we love you !

Andy McCluskey goes it alone as a newly revamped Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark with this excellent 1991 release.
This album includes a cover version of Kraftwerk's classic Neon Lights ....I certainly know that the electronic and synthesizer compositions of this great Kraut rock quartet were certainly an inspiration for Andy McCluskey so it's no wonder
that sooner or later a cover version would definitely appear on one of OMD's albums .... The opening single, 'Sailing on the
Seven Seas' and 'Pandora's Box' are great OMD tracks .... I seem to recall that OMD closed shop in the late 1990s and McCluskey
went on to manage girl band, Atomic Kitten .... Bought this album originally in 1991 on Audio tape so decided to get a new CD
copy ordered with immediate effect from Amazon ...Can't say I'm disappointed the sound quality is fantastic and far superior !

5.0 out of 5 stars The Smiths plus New Order united together as one great band !, 13 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Electronic (Audio CD)
Been a big fan of New Order in the 1980s but not so much in the 1990s and noughties (when they'd left their indie Factory label and signed to London Records and decided to go more commercially poppy) .... Electronic were the fusion of the vocal talents
of Bernard Sumner and the guitar talents of The Smith's Johnny Marr ... Their first single release in 1989 ,'Getting Away with It'
is included in this two CD remastered and repackaged album ....However this single did not appear on the original album release. This new release includes remixes and rarities. Some of which appeared on their next two album releases , 'Raise the Pressure' and Twisted Tenderness' ... Also a remix of their 1992 non- album single, 'Disappointed' , which like Getting Away With It includes vocals from Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant .... I originally bought this album when it was released in the spring of 1991 ...t I decided to purchase this new package for the remastered upgrade and bonus CD of remixes etc. .... Well worth adding to your CD collection ....10/10.!
