5.0 out of 5 stars Quality set, 18 Dec 2013
I did not allow the title of this collection to put me off. It may look kitsch, but the musical content is of the highest order. A thoughtful and not entirely obvious (even though it does contain classics like Gould in Bach's Goldberg Variations) choice of works - piano concertos and piano solo pieces in more or less equal proportion - and accomplished pianists. Outstanding sound engineering. Personal highligts - Van Cliburn in Czajkowski I piano concerto, Serkin in Beethioven III i V piano concertos, S.Richter in Bach's Well Tempered Clavier, Horowitz in Scarlatti's sonatas.

It is probably the first time I see such limited information. I mean the publisher refrains even from giving the year of performance and the total time duration of a cd, which is clearly a matter of policy (so much quality music at such a discounted price; those who paid full price got the information to differentiate the offers this rather funny way).

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes it is, 1 Jan 2012
I've bought it because the price was right and I didn't have 4 or 5 titles from this set. As it turned out the sound quality of this edition is so good, life-like, that the box replaced my older records too. The covers are mini-vinyl replicas and the whole collection fits in a small handy box. Surprisingly good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blends well, 4 Feb 2011
This review is from: Timeless (Audio CD)
An interesting compilation of 17th century baroque music composed by Merula, and the 20th century minimalistic music of Glass. Blends well and in general atmosphere resembles somewhat a movie sondtrack. Instrumentarium includes a saxophone. Pleasant and at the same time quite sophisticated music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only if you like your Bach lyrical, 15 Mar 2010
For me Bach music is - however hard it is catch the intangible with words - about rythm and wisdom. Murray Perahia seems to play it for melody and lyricism. And he plays very well, no doubt about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable addition to trading library, 3 Dec 2009
Tharp goes more in depth into psychological and some other strategic aspects of good trading like trader's mission and objectives. The lecture is rather short but still constitutes a valuable follow-up to his most important "Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom".

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 6 Nov 2009
Like his other great book Mindfulness in Plain English it is written not only with heart but also with an extremely orderly mind. I do not use markers for his writings, it is that essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gig, 21 Jun 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The original concert lasted 13 hours with each of the acts performing for about an hour. These dvds present a good summary of the event. Pity they do not show the "Mexican wave" performed by the 120,000 crowd without any microphone guidance from the stage - a remarkable accomplishment as it was not in a stadium but on a plain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful surprise, 21 Jun 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well, I like a lot Frank Sinatra's way of singing and finding these excellent recordings allowed me to meet his alter ego among female vocalists. Anita O'Day phrasing is very intelligent and one remains under the spell of her delivery throughout this sensational presentation of her talent. Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing, 21 July 2006
This review is from: Pulse [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
The concert severly lacks in dramaturgy (track order) and visuals. Starting with Shine On just to go on to play a long sequence of songs from the last album, when the band seems very much like just going through the motions, is cheap to me; same for the rather large pig shown during One of this Days. Why the extremely large pig during One of this Days? Wouldn't it fit nicely with a piece from the Animals? Was it just easily available after The Animals productions? An amusement park...? Visuals suck quite often - why Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and - I like him - John Major thrown in the same basket with Saddam Hussajn in Lunatics? Why do we have to watch the faces of Saddam, Reagan every time we watch a Pink Floyd gig?

I liked very much indeed Pink Floyd show at Knebworth 1990, live, and a Roger Waters' In the Flesh dvd. This one here, long applauded on vhs and then long awaited (dvd) seems is just a case of brand over substance to me.
