5.0 out of 5 stars Shocking and moving, 23 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's very brave of anyone to admit such things to their own family, let alone go public with it in this way. It's certainly shocking that anyone would take advantage of a child going through what he already had to deal with, and the way it's presented as transcripts of his therapy sessions certainly makes it a very emotional read, it really makes you think you're sat in on the sessions with him, which is both fascinating and rather uncomfortable all at once.

Certainly a memorable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happily Ever After, 5 Feb 2008
This review is from: Wedding Daze [DVD] (DVD)
Don't watch this film because the back cover blurb compares it to "Wedding Crashers" or "American Pie", watch this film for it's own story, and it's own unique take on the age old boy-meets-girl story.

The characters are all very likable, especially the two leads, Jason Biggs and Isla Fisher. And it's their likability that enable the viewer to stay focussed from start to finish.

The plot may seem far-fetched at times to some, but if it's accurate documentary you're after, then you shouldn't be watching it. This film is a sweet, escapist fantasy that stops short of the absurd to reflect on the nature of relationships and attraction at key points amongst the well excecuted chaos.

I'm not going to rehash the plot again, the synopsis is there for all to read; but I do urge fans of the romantic comedy to go at this with an open mind, and all pre-conceptions and comparisons with recent offerings fully erased from their minds.

Wedding Daze doesn't disappoint, and in my opinion, the powers that be totally blew the promotion, because they couldn't think outside their tiny box.

5.0 out of 5 stars We were deprived of The State, so make sure you catch this!, 18 Feb 2004
Years ago comedy sketch show 'The Kids in The Hall' was shown over here on the BBC. Well, imagine that, only better, and you'd imagine The State which was shown on MTV in the US in the early 90's.
Many of the original 12 members of that comedy pantheon appear in this movie, and it was written and directed by members too, with some additional great performances from the likes of David Hyde-Pierce (Niles from 'Frasier') who does a spectacular comic turn that is a million miles from the Niles we know and love.
Set in a Summer Camp in the 1980's, it focuses on the camp counsellors and their charges trying to organise a last day of fun and frolics before the kids go home. But with the counsellors barely older than the kids, and their minds on each other rather than the welfare of their campers, things soon start to go very wrong...
Expect blatancy in every form; bad language, bad fashion and bad taste. But don't expect a bad movie. If you can keep an open mind about gay weddings and talking tin cans you'll be in for a rare treat. It was never given a cinema release over here, but in the US has now achieved the kind of underground cult status reminiscent of The Rocky Horror Picture Show: midnight screenings, folks dressing up as the characters, cast members attending and prizes awarded for best costumes.
If at first you don't 'get' it, try watching again. If only for McKinley's red satin shorts!
