This book originally came out in 1995, the same year I started looking for a job in advertising. I got myself a copy and used it untold times as a jump starter to get ideas rolling. There is no 'how to' section on how to write copy. It's not that kind of book.

In this digital age everyone and their uncle has a Twitter account or a blog of some sort. Millions of posts and tweets are created each day. But that doesn't make these people into copywriters. It is a learned skill with many hours of practice. The Copy Book may not have a 'how to' section but then again, the writers you'll find inside didn't learn their craft by following a 'how to' book either.

Read, read and re-read the work of these writers. Find your heros. Try to understand the tone of voice they have used, why they've written what they've written and how they have crafted each sentence. If you do this you'll be well on your way to writing some half decent copy yourself. Trust me. It's the only way to learn the art of being a real copywriter.

Mike is a talented instructor without any shadow of doubt. The lessons learned from this DVD are informative, necessary and very very valuable.
I would of loved to have given a 5 star rating but for me personally I think the format is a little dated and could do with a little revamping. Don't take this the wrong way, the content is absolutely brilliant, but in this day and age, the DVD does feel a little old fashioned in the way the content is presented. If it were to be given to a production company to add the necessary tweaks via editing and simplistic, instructional 'reminder' diagrams, this DVD would fly off the shelves! Again, a fantastic DVD (bar none) to be owned by every rider. The visual presentation could do with being a little more 'modern'.

AMV BBDO is one of London's most respected advertising agencies. Over the years they have produced some of the most memorable advertising to come out of the UK. The Economist ads being just a "few" of them.

This book is a must for anyone who works in the ad industry, the marketing business or even your local chip shop! Most people appreciate a good ad, but everyone adores a great ad and this book has some great ads inside (i.e.) "A poster should contain no more than eight words, which is the maximum the average reader can take in at any single glance. This, however, is a poster for Economist readers.

Alfredo and his associates can give themselves a pat on the back for a job well done and Alfedo can do the same for himself for a book that is indeed "well written".
