Saf-Escape Fire Escape Ladder - 14ft - 10-14" Wall Thickness
Saf-Escape Fire Escape Ladder - 14ft - 10-14" Wall Thickness
Offered by Safelincs
Price: £77.19

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but care required in storage and deployment, 17 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fits the window, reaches the ground, and sticks out from the wall. All good. But it is clunky to roll up, with tangles hard to avoid. It is also slightly tricky to deploy - it would be all to easy to drop the lot out of the window, thereby leaving the would-be escaper a bit bemused. Neither of these two possibilities would be good if one was in a hurry. I think I can modify the product to get round each, but I have not yet got round to it ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice piece of material, but I goofed, 17 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered this late at night when more frost was expected. I wanted to protect the car from snow and ice, but this car cover is not the answer. The instructions advise the user not to put it over a wet car, and of course that it has to be kept clear of hot exhaust pipes. So if you come home of an evening with a wet car, and there is talk of freezing overnight, you cannot put this cover on. First you have to wait for the exhaust to cool, and then you have to contrive to dry the car, and keep it dry from any subsequent condensation that may occur under the cover, which is quite a blousy one. I tried it all, but the cover was stuck to the car in the morning, as if by a powerful adhesive, and it took more time to get off than de-icing ever would. The elasticated base is also not adequate for windy weather, and I added some bungee cords underneath the car, and across the bonnet to increase security. So, I take off one star for that. I take another star off to assuage my annoyance at not having spotted that the blurb makes no claims that the cover is good for winter use. It would be a good choice for use inside a garage or a car showroom if dusty renovation work was coming, but other than that, the buyer should beware. Nice strong material though.

What tremendous value for money! Very pleased to get this for my library. Imagine if it had caught on so that there were 100 Smithists for every Marxist! How much better the world would be by now.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK for Guardian readers, irritating for everyone else, 3 Nov. 2014
This review is from: The Aftermath (Paperback)
A plodding, clunker-sentenced book that reads as if it had been assembled by committee of Guardian readers intent on showing how sensitive and aware they were that not all Germans were evil, and not all Brits were angels. We won the war against German socialism, but they made a better go of resisting it afterwards, at least in West Germany. The East Germans never had a chance to escape until several more decades were to pass.

Biodiesel: A Novel
Biodiesel: A Novel
by George H. Monahan
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.93

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining anti-establishment stuff, 29 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Biodiesel: A Novel (Paperback)
4 stars is maybe a bit generous for a literary work whose main virtues are boldness (for taking the mickey out of green zealots and associated profiteers) and imagination. The writing, the scene-setting though are generally pretty good, although a few typos mar the text here and there. I found it hugely enjoyable. The scourge of eco-fanaticism is no laughing matter, having caused enormous harm already, but getting a chance to have a laugh at it is very welcome, and it may turn out that ridicule rather than outrage will rid us of the beast. The associated blog of Daphne is a further treat to be relished: http://greentremayne.com/Blog.html.

Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science
Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science

5.0 out of 5 stars I have reviewed this book earlier on Amazon. com ..., 28 Oct. 2014
I have reviewed this book earlier on Amazon.com. I commend it as a contribution to enhanced debate on climate science. The debate, such as it is, has been very badly skewed by the summary reports for (actually 'by') policy makers - the SPMs of the IPCC. These reports do not even give a fair reflection of the IPCC reports which they purport to summarise, and so they fail quite dramatically to reflect the broader debate. This book presents the case for not being alarmed by our CO2 emissions, and it is an extremely strong case. Here you will find scientific paper after scientific paper being cited in support of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy science that helped launch eco-activism and thereby cause catastrophic harm to many and nuisance to all, 5 Jun. 2014
The dust has long settled on this book, and its many shortcomings have been established. The success of it when published surely drew many politically-ambitious and ruthless people into the environmental movement, as well as upsetting countless decent folk who took her at her word. The anti-humanity ethos that has grown and grown in eco-circles around the world in the decades that followed this book reached their, hopefully, peak with the man-made global warming alarmism. That is slowly being exposed as guff, and of course DDT has been reintroduced to good effect in some locations ([...]).

Heat Powered Wood Burning Stove Fireplace Fan - Black Blades - Round Wood Trading Model - Eco Friendly Heating
Heat Powered Wood Burning Stove Fireplace Fan - Black Blades - Round Wood Trading Model - Eco Friendly Heating
Offered by Galleon Fireplaces
Price: £44.99

2.0 out of 5 stars Provides a conversation piece but airflow lacks conviction, 29 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The fan turns with little noise, unless the stove gets very hot in which case there is a weak burring sound as the wee fan whirrs away. The airflow is quite feeble and it is hard to believe it can have much effect over and above the strong convection which must arise from the hot stove. I suspect the fan is not worth having, except possibly as a conversation piece - for conversations that might well begin 'does that actually do anything for you?'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent torch, 4 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The torch is a good bright one, but marred in use by the bizarre toggling you have to do to get the light you want. It means for the occasional user, that you never know what kind of light you will get when you first switch it on. Will it be flashing in one of the two styles (who would possibly want either?), will it be low light or bright? I would have given it 4 stars last year but now I have seen more of other torches of this style, making this one both fairly ordinary and fairly expensive.
