3.0 out of 5 stars Not short poems, 20 Jan 2012
Don't expect these to be 12 or 14 line poems. Some are large chunks of much longer poems, good but too long to learn by heart unless you have a lot of enthusiasm or a lot of free time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, 1 Nov 2011
I have had this for 3 days now and it does what it says on the tin.

It adds little to the overall thickness, looks very nice and I have no regrets about buying this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good summary of the monetary crisis, 2 Oct 2011
Well written. I got confused about dates occasionally. I finished the book and enjoyed it.
Contrary to the 2 star review I thought Darling comes over as a decent guy trying to manage events dear boy events.
He managed them as well as he could in the macro and micro circumstances in which he found himself.
He is generous in his judgements of colleagues apart from a few where what he doesn't say speaks for itself.
Worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, 15 Sep 2011
I just finished this book which is a vehicle for AMS's philosophical musings which turn out to be everyman's.
The plots are good and sustain the action. The writing is beautiful.
A very pleasurable 4 hour entertainment and enlightenment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 7 Sep 2011
This book is at least 200 pages too long, repetitious, and with an anticlimax ending.
You keep thinking it has to improve but it doesn't. He is either filling in space or is entranced by his love of minutiae which he wants to display at every opportunity.
Don't even waste your time buying it in a Charity book store.

For someone starting out in drawing this is just pitched at the right level.
Still in use after 60 odd years is the only reference this book needs,

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as useful as it could be, 14 Jun 2011
The recipes are for at least two people and sometimes up to ten.
Not realistic in that more than one person per household on this diet would be unusual.

As a guide about what is allowed, and in terms of presentation it is worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars addition, 28 Jan 2011
This is an excellent book, but requires one addition.

Ian Gawler is mentioned as an example of the benefits of meditation. Gawler attributes his remission to meditation but in fact he had raging tuberculosis at the time of his remission as described by his wife who nursed him through the illness. There is a long genuine history of remission associated with fever, as a web search will show.

Meditation is good but for remission it is not the whole story fever may be your best bet.

A useful additional book is Remarkable Recovery by Hirschberg and Barasch.

5.0 out of 5 stars insightful and funny, 6 Nov 2010
This review is from: Corduroy Mansions (Paperback)
I like AMS's writing.
This book is full of well observed characters and situations.
I know people like those described and found it the funniest book I have read since Catch22.
It does tail off with a bit of deus ex machina but is none the less for that.
And one page seems more like an essay that dialogue.
No overarching plot just a series of incidents and situations.
Wonderful reading.
