2.0 out of 5 stars Strong start entirely let down by meaningless ending, 5 Oct. 2015

This started out really well but then got soooooooo dull and aimless and ends without going anywhere at all, no meaningful resolution. Very disappointing.

Yellow Blue Tibia: A Novel
Yellow Blue Tibia: A Novel
Price: £5.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Impossible to follow, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Impossible to follow the ever-changing and ever-less-plausible plot. First Stalin's an alien, then he's not, then someone's dead, then they're not... a bit like a satire of scifi

Only Beautiful Please: A British Diplomat in North Korea
Only Beautiful Please: A British Diplomat in North Korea
Price: £7.49

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and shows what the media doesn't, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Everard beautifully and engagingly captures the oddities of North Korea, both the ones we'd expect given the media coverage, and the sweet, innocent lives that its citizens live and which receive less coverage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't manage without this, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I couldn't manage without this: a lightweight device which can fully charge an iPhone 5S very quickly... several times over. The drawstring bag that comes with it is flimsy and hasn't lasted though.

May Contain Nuts
May Contain Nuts
Price: £4.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Weak on plot but so strong on middle-class satire, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: May Contain Nuts (Kindle Edition)
The actual plotline (a mother disguising herself as her daughter to sit the 11+ exam) isn't hugely strong, and the twist at the end is implausible and soapy. But that isn't all the book is. O'Farrell really excels at portraying the minutiae of the characters' studied middle-class life - and hilarious it is too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best crime dramas around, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Line of Duty Series 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Edge-of-the-seat thriller with corruption in the police force, people in positions of responsibility swapping speeding spoints with their spouses (wonder where they got that idea from) and a quite incredible interrogation scene in one episode which keeps the tension going in one tiny room for 17 minutes straight. One of the best crime dramas around.

1.0 out of 5 stars No structure and no real content, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Serpent in Paradise (Hardcover)
Considering how fascinating Pitcairn is, Birkett has produced a meandering, structure-less volume with hardly any substantive content, hinting at something dark without ever actually finding it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impossible to put down, 8 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I could not put this book down: from the almost-implausible beginnings of Pitcairn Island, with the Bounty mutineers settling the land with all their gunpowder and alcohol, to the sexual abuse trials of the 2000s, Marks keeps the story alive as it spans the centuries. Interesting subject matter was definitely on her side but this is a comprehensive and authoritative work on the Pitcairn prosecutions.
