4.0 out of 5 stars Carries on a good tradition, 2 Oct. 2014

I will confess that I do like Niall's work, though possibly more of the sci-fi than the fantasy stuff. The thaumatology series makes for a good read, with a cohesive backstory, likeable characters and just enough surreal silliness thrown in to keep me amused. Some readers have passed comment on the amount of sex in some of the books, but I've never felt this was a problem - it seperates it from the vapid "twiglet" style that seems to abound so much in this genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, with good quality artwork, 2 Oct. 2014

Surprisingly enjoyable, with fun characters and good dialogue.
I'm always a bit wary of comicbooks (or graphic novels as some want to be called) as the artist is often more interested in showing off rather than allowing the story to flow. This was a pleasant exception, the art style never tried to overpower the plot, the characters were interesting and the way the story flowed never got over-melodromatic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and enjoyable romp through space, 2 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good solid book. Never going to be a fine article of literature but it was never intended to be. Characters are likeable and the interaction is nicely handled, pacing is well timed without the need to go overboard and the pseudo scientific b******* is kept to a believable level.

Is it just me or does Crusher come across as Charr in space ^_^

Carries on the fine tradition from Renegades 1 (which follows through in the subsequent volumes).

As a sci-fi it does have shades of Blake's 7, but that's not a bad thing. The characters are nicely crafted and the concept of a continuous story woven through the books whilst each book focuses on one crew member is nicely done.

Have read all the others in the series so far and look forward to more in the future.

Will be nice to see if it unifies with the other sci-fi in the same universe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not by the fantasy author, 18 July 2014
First things first. This is NOT by the fantasy novel author.

Having overcome that hurdle it is an interesting autobiography of the rugby player.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piggyback's the franchise without offering anything of substance., 18 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Aside from the name and a couple of references it really has nothing to do with Silent Hill. Pretty much a second-rate graphic novel that gets by courtesy of the association with the game franchise. Artwork is ok-ish, but again has absolutely no similarity to the franchise.

Not worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff., 10 July 2014

Excellent start, just hope the promised follow-ons are as good.

Art style is crisp and clean, pacing of the story is well timed and the characters are sufficiently engaging to be of interest. Overall an interesting take on the zombie survival genre and a sure hit fr anyone with a leaning towards anime/manga style works.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures, shame about the content, 10 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice artwork, but the story plays out like a bad Marvel / DC comicbook. Plenty of blood, guts and pseudo emotional claptrap but you never really get a feel for the characters - there's no emotional empathy with them.

Not a patch on alternative Wonderlands such as Alice - madness returns. Different medium I know but there it is.

Aluminium case is ok, however the USB 3 slot is so weak it delaminated from the control board after only a few insertions. Will not be trusting this manufacturer with my money ever again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but could have been better, 24 Jun. 2014

Certainly not as good as the authors other two works, but plays out quite nicely. Characterisation is good but the pacing came across as "hurry up and wait"
