5.0 out of 5 stars Singer-Sargent's Portrait Paintings, 3 Sept. 2010
If you don't know much about John Singer-Sargent then this is a good book to start with a it's inexpensive and contains a large number of illustrations which introduce his style. To me, his drawings seem to have a fresh and vibrant look which matches the age, the places he lived in and people whose portraits he painted. This is most evident in his paintings, but if you start with his portrait drawings, I think you'll gain a greater appreciation of his paintings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holbein's Portrait Drawings, 3 Sept. 2010
If you don't know much about Holbein then this is a good book to start with as it's inexpensive and contains a large number of illustrations which introduce his style. Holbein was one of the greatest portrait painters of all time and there are some great 'coffee table' books to move onto after this if you're suitably enamoured with his handiwork.

The City Out My Window: 63 Views on New York
The City Out My Window: 63 Views on New York

5.0 out of 5 stars A Room with a View, 3 Sept. 2010
Great idea to draw views of New York from famous people's windows, although with most of the people, you'd have to be an American to know who they are.

The book was smaller than I expected it to be and the illustrations don't fit the page so if you want to look at the drawing details, a page magnifier would be good to have to hand (perhaps it's my eyesight!). A small quibble though as it's a well presented book and each drawing is prefaced with a few sentences from the people in question. Well worth investing in if you like architectural drawings and musings on city life.
