Ex-library book (not stated as such) however, the original library paperwork shows that this book was never lent and as a result, it's in pretty good condition

published in 1986, this hardback book is in very good condition for a book that is nearly 30 years old. Page, of course, have yellowed, but apart from that it's as perfect as you could wish for

3.0 out of 5 stars Lennonono versus the rest - maybe., 12 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Initially, quite an engaging and thought provoking analysis of what was happening to the Beatles - in terms of their professional and personal relations and the impact that Yoko Ono might have had directly or indirectly during the recording of Abbey Road and specifically the track, I Want You (She's So Heavy).
What happened remains speculation despite the research the author has undertaken and in many ways it can come down to what may or may not have happened and of course it's up to the reader to decide (or not), for themselves.
What prevents me awarding 5 stars is that the book is based on the authors interpretation and opinions. There I some I simply don't agree with. What spoilt it for me is the authors opinion of George Harrison, both as a musician - illustrating him as nothing more than a journeyman musician whose musical contribution to the Beatles discography as, at best, insignificant and that any success he gained in his solo career was achieved simply because he had been a member of the Beatles.

Finally, the style of writing is, at times, dull and on several occasions I found myself reading and re-reading sentences and paragraphs to try and make sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Length (so my wife says) is Everything, 2 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This first saw light of day as a short story in Oxcrimes, and as short stories go left me with a whetted appetite for more. My appetite has certainly been sated by this now novella length story.

It's everything a short story isn't.

Much more depth to the whole story and especially, and perhaps more importantly, the characters, no more asking the vexed question of how or why somebody did something or why something happened, the "means, motive and method" of the plot leaves you feeling more fulfilled.

As a product this is ideal for dark clothes that need a gentle wash. However, be very wary of the price £10.99 from Amazon, £4.50 from Wilkinson's so I'm returning mine to Amazon and buying two from Wilkinson's

Night After Night
Night After Night

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit of b’other in the Cotswolds, 30 Oct. 2014
This review is from: Night After Night (Hardcover)
Night After Night, which is a traditional haunted house ghost story and at the same time a crime story and a novel about reality TV”, is the latest tour de force from the master of mystery & psychological
Rickman fans will welcome back familiar friends from the “Cold Calling” and “Mean Spirit” books (originally published under the pseudonym of Will Kingdom) – the Holy Trinity of Grayle Underhill, the irascible Marcus Bacton and the enigmatic Cindy Mars-Lewis (and not forgetting Kelvyn Kite).
The story has echoes of “December” – a group of individuals, herded together for a specific and possibly, nefarious, reason. Only this time the setting is Knap Hall in Winchcombe where a live TV programme is to be broadcast focussing on a group of celebrities discussing their personal beliefs & experiences – for and against – of the paranormal. Think Celebrity Big Brother meets Most Haunted.
As ever, Rickman skilfully delegates responsibility to the reader in deciding whether what happens belongs to the paranormal, or not, with valid arguments given, for and against, by the assembled cast and conveyed through Rickman’s expert use of dialogue and narrative, coupled with intriguing archaeological and historical aspects that are seamlessly woven into the story including Henry VIII’s widow Katherine Parr, buried in St. Mary’s Chapel in the neighbouring Sudeley Castle and Belas Knap, a Neolithic long chambered barrow on nearby Cleeve Hill.

first time I've used steel strings (though I do usually use Rotosound strings on my electric and acoustic guitars) and I just wanted to see what difference they made (if any). These are now fitted to my Fender Strat and I can quite honestly say that I really like both the feel and sound of these strings

bought for the copying MP3 music files from computer to a new Sony Xperia android phone. It has performed this task very well. I also use the cable to contact my MP3 player (Sandisk Sansa Clip) to the media player in my car (Skoda Rapid) and I'm convinced that it improves that sound quality compared to the use of the cable provided with the Sansa Clip

The descrition promises a "quality" chrome double sided key ring. The one I received could not be described as such. The printing of the Skoda emblem is quite poor and there are very visible marks all around the inside of the chromed housing on both sides. Not worth the £6.29 I paid for it

Children of the Revolution: The 21st DCI Banks Mystery (Inspector Banks 21)
Children of the Revolution: The 21st DCI Banks Mystery (Inspector Banks 21)
by Peter Robinson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £18.14

3.0 out of 5 stars Warning - Padding!, 5 April 2014
Robinson's DCI Banks books were, at one point, ones that I would pre-order and relish the prospect of reading. Unfortunately, this does not apply any more. Children of the Revolution is a good example of why. The actual police procedural part is, at best, novella length. The plot is quite neat, but I'm sure most readers will have it worked at at least half-way through. Yes, it is predictable. The rest of the book is unneccessary padding.
