1.0 out of 5 stars A dismal tome, 24 Dec. 2015
It’s hard to know what the worst thing about this dreadful book is, so I’ve made a list below:

1. The horribly verbose style - a kind of literary diarrhoea that Chapman spews across every miserable page
2. The dreadful lack of focus shown as the author rambles on interminably about topics only tangentially related to psychedelia
3. The dismal command of facts and even basic names. He actually refers to Sly Saxon and The Seeds at one point. In fact you might know less than you started with after you’ve read this book
4. The horrendous length which will bore any right-thinking person to tears of pain by the time they crawl listlessly to page 600
5. The lack of understanding that psychedelia could have possibly continued past 1967
6. The endless repetition of phrases and words like “wonky momentum”, “lingua franca” and “prelapsarian”
7. The boorish tone of the whole work – as if the author has an amazing objective view of music where he is right and everyone else is wrong

If you’re easily impressed by a writer sticking lots of long words together in a sentence, and don’t care about little things like facts or first-hand interviews with the people who actually made the music then this is the book for you! To everyone else – please ignore this awful charlatan and spend your money elsewhere

This review is from: Creepy John Thomas (Audio CD)
Great album but this CD is the most inbelievably awful needle drop imaginable from a scratched up copy. Hard to believe this was released by a human with actual ears

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusted, 19 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Denver (Hardcover)
Attracted by the artwork and quirky cover character, I was completely disgusted by the message of this book. The fundamental idea is thus: don't share, don't question the rich, don't ever aspire to more than you have, be happy as a servile peasant. This is completely inappropriate for the age group targeted

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent collection of under-rated acts, 22 April 2007
Don't be put off if you're only into sixties psych - this is a great collction. The sub-title 'Original Artyfacts From The Second Psychedelic Era 1976-1995' is a little misleading, but what the collection does do is bring together many psych revivalists, paisley undergrounders, psychobillies, and obscurities into one fascinating package.
