Enter a strange, mysterious world, 18 Feb. 2013
An intriguing narrative, which seamlessly unfolds and encourages the reader to feel they are a close observer. Acute observation by the author of social encounters, which at times appear to bridge the gap between fiction and reality. Descriptive prose, maps out the city and districts of Edinburgh in a convincing way. It's also possible to 'see' the main characters negotiate streets or occupy spaces such as a flat or tenement.
The pages are packed with detail, in a consistently interesting way. A great deal of research has clearly been carried out to achieve this rich level. Her rich writing style has been deployed in a manner that is both confident and authoritative. Reading this book becomes both compulsive and addictive. Highly recommended.
