The Program for Better Vision
The Program for Better Vision
by Martin Sussman
Edition: Paperback

1.0 out of 5 stars unrealistic, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It might be possible to achieve better vision using the methods in this book. But the methods are so impractical for anyone with a job or family, or a life, and I have my doubts that it is all a bit of a con. The book starts with pages of positive testimonies, as if to prove that it works and build your faith up in it. I'd save up for surgery. It's more likely to do the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars honest, 8 July 2013

This review is from: Setting Love in Order (Paperback)
A desperately honest, personal account, of one man's journey out of homosexuality into heterosexuality. The current politically correct view in the UK, is that homosexuals are born homosexual, and therefore we must accept them the way they are. My view is, we should accept people the way they are - full stop/period. We are then free to acknowledge that there are actually many people who have come to realise that their attraction to the same sex developed as a result of aspects of their early relationships, particularly with parents. That's not to say that all people with same sex attraction have it for the same reasons. Perhaps some are born homosexual. But the experience of Bergner, and others, proves that not all homosexuals are born homosexual. We should not ignore the stories of those who have desired change, and achieved it.

Improve Your Teaching: Teaching Beginners: A New Approach for Instrumental and Singing Teachers
Improve Your Teaching: Teaching Beginners: A New Approach for Instrumental and Singing Teachers
by Paul Harris
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars very useful, 8 July 2013

You won't necessarily do everything the way Paul Harris suggests - all teachers will develop their own individual style and approach - but I did find this book extremely useful and it built my confidence to start teaching beginners. It gives quite a few ideas of how to start off, and different things to be aware of and to try. If you are new to teaching, or new to teaching beginners, I would definitely say it is worth reading.

Solo Piano (1994)
Solo Piano (1994)

5.0 out of 5 stars worth the money, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Solo Piano (1994) (Audio CD)
I spent a lot of money on this CD. It is no longer available new. It was worth it. The River Boogie is just the ultimate boogie woogie. There is one track on the CD which I always skip over, but the other tracks are so amazing. If you love boogie woogie, and you like Jools Holland's playing, it is worth owning.

I bought it for my Dad. His previous one fell over in the rain, and wasn't sturdy enough. This one is better because of its shape. He has found it useful.

An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural
An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural
by James Randi
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars fun and interesting in parts, 8 July 2013

A fun encyclopaedia, presumably from an atheist's point of view. It does debunk a lot of myths but it doesn't really consider anything in any great detail; and some of it is just one person's opinion, with no supporting evidence given

Crafting Jewish: Fun Holiday Crafts and Party Ideas for the Whole Family

Price: 17.48

2.0 out of 5 stars for children, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's ok for children. There are probably some nice things for families and kids to do together around the feasts. I wanted crafts for adults really so it didn't suit me. A friend of mine took it though, and was really happy for ideas to do things with the kids.

A simple, easy-to-use, door bar. You just open it out, put it up and go for it. It folds away flat easily, and I trust it to support me and not come crashing down! No problems at all. Does a good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars very helpful, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If I could boil this book down to its essence, I would say the main theme is: if you want to be creative, just make a start. But Tharp gives all sorts of tips on how to get started, how to be inspired, how to approach tasks. It really is a fascinating insight into how she maintained her creative life, and I found it a very inspiring book. My main problem regarding being creative had been a big block in just starting and getting on with it. I found the answer and the advice I really needed in this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars dry, lacks imagination, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This analysis is very dry. There is little imagination or soul. If you can read music, you can see for yourself most of what Tovey has to say about Beethoven's sonatas in this book. He does defend why he has chosen to write that sort of analysis. If you are looking for a mere description of what you see on the page, then it might help you. I was looking for something more than that.
