4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous gizmo, 29 Jan 2011
This is a really fabulous clock radio for iPad. Why dock your wonderful iPad in its case, or leave it on your desk, when you can use it as a digital photo frame/combination/music player/alarm clock on your bedside table? It features dual alarms which are easy to set, and has a delightful little 'nap' function, which is operated without setting an alarm. Lovely for those illicit pre-dinner snoozes.

The sleep-to-music function lets you choose to let your music play you to sleep from 2 hours to 15 minutes, and is easy to set when you're sleepy.

It's bluetooth enabled, which makes it very sophisticated indeed. Sound is surprisingly good for a clock radio, not overly special, but I'm a classical music enthusiast, and find it well suits my needs at low bedroom volumes, but I can turn it up loud enough to hear in the bath without sacrificing sound quality.

Two things which make it well-designed: the connector is designed so that you can dock/charge your iPad WITHOUT removing it from its case, and the display is properly dimmable - I like to sleep in a dark room.

It would get five stars if it wasn't, like many iHome products, a bit ugly.

I tried the Altec Lansing, but it was awful, and I returned it. The sound was only a smidgen better, and it didn't do anything but dock and play. As well, once you got your iPad into the Octiv, it was the devil's own job to get it out again. The iHome is a breeze, and you can dock without removing the case.

All in all, I love it -- well done, iHome. Go ahead and buy one; you won't be dsiappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Writing? You need this., 1 Feb 2009
This review is from: The Elements of Style (Paperback)
No matter what you're writing: a novel, a billboard, a theatre review, a radio spot, an academic paper, song lyrics -- you need this book, and it might just be the only one you'll need. It teaches you how to be clear; to write precisely what you mean (you have to know what you mean first!~), and to come across as meaning what you say.

If everyone who writes anything read and understood this little book first, there would be a lot less confusion in the world, and a lot less written drivel to wade through.

Think of it as a kindness to your readership.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite., 1 Feb 2009
This review is from: La Scala (Audio CD)
My 11 year old son and I listened to this one snowy afternoon when he was home with a cold. It created a magical afternoon -- "Over the Rainbow" had us both trickling tears of beauty. I've long loved Jarrett, and my son is a dedicated junior jazz pianist composing his own music; and both us feel, for many reasons -- that truly this album is a wonder. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply, a delight!, 1 Feb 2009
...a wonderful "hillbilly" take on Homer's Odyssey. The characters are beautifully portrayed in way that is as timeless as it is postmodern. It is, like the epic it poem it recreates, a fable -- about human perseverance and humour, about greed, disappointment and betrayal; about the ties that bind both friends and thieves. It is also about hope with a capital "H", and about those audacious enough to keep trying. And finally, the music is absolutely wonderful -- I bought the album and all four of us, from 11 to 52, put it on our iPods and love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars for anyone who likes a cozy cuddle...., 1 Feb 2009

I saw the Sheep version of this in the home of a retired friend who had requested it for her 75th birthday, and fell in love. At Christmas I bought three of them (this Puppy, a Sheep and a Cat) for family members (only one of whom is under 20), and we all love them. A cross between a stuffed toy and a pillow and a blanket, it's perfect for those cold evenings on the sofa with a book, listening music or watching television. Wrap it around cold feet and its face will look up at you with affection; put it over your knees to keep you warm in a chair, and prop your book up on its head; cuddle up with it like a pillow. Fabulous.

1.0 out of 5 stars who designed this thing?, 1 Feb 2009
I returned it when everyone in our home tried to get my HTC Touch Pro into this case, and all of us realised, one by one, that it was impossible without breaking, or at the very least, compromising the phone. I have had Proporta cases in the past, and been very happy with them, but whoever designed this one had obviously never used this phone. The phone is simply too thick for the case. As well, the phone has a keyboard that slides out from right to left, and the case inhibits its use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encouragement for all..., 1 Feb 2009
this a fabulous book...for those of all ages whose confidence and enthusiasm might flag a little from time to time. Having read it to my son when he was little, I have found myself returning to it again and again. As a psychotherapist in Adult Mental Health, I find myself assigning it for those who are jaded, afraid or anxious about failing or being fooled; for those who are simply "stuck". It has uncommon wisdom in a deceptively childish form and with the wonderful illustrations, it delights while it encourages and teaches. The recording included in this edition is a bonus: I have had one young burgeoning businessman put it on his iPod, where he can listen to it secretly while commuting, whenever he needs an encouraging "prod that twinkles".

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this!, 13 Jan 2009
Please do not waste your money on this case. The phone barely fits in to it -- you can get it in, but it is so tight that one worries about damaging the phone getting it in and out. the plastic that goes over the phone face doesn't go right the way over, so half of the phone is uncovered, which creates a problem on a touch screen. Finally, you can't use the pull out keyboard because they've put the open side on the wrong side!

The thing is a waste of money -- and when you try to return it, they are NOT interested.

2.0 out of 5 stars mind the software..., 13 Dec 2008
this is a great mouse; but beware that although the hardware is compatible with Mac, the installation software is not. I can't even open it from my mac.
