4.0 out of 5 stars Chin fluff begone!, 3 Feb. 2015

Good little gadget - bought for those irritating chin hairs you get growing older and does the job. A lot cheaper than comparable products - would recommend if you are realistic about want you need it for - you need a regular shaver for leg hair, etc.

Scott Walker Sings Jacques Brel
Scott Walker Sings Jacques Brel
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, cute in a stupid-assed way, 2 Aug. 2014

This the CD of the album - if like me, you remember albums, you'll remember they could be pretty short. And so this is - only nine tracks - but what songs! And what a voice! Okay, some people don't like the translations, but I've always thought that if you want Brel to be Brel, then go for the original - just enjoy Scott for what he brings to the table.

The Dream Solution: The Murder of Alison Shaughnessy - And the Fight to Name Her Killer
The Dream Solution: The Murder of Alison Shaughnessy - And the Fight to Name Her Killer
by Bernard O'Mahoney
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A miscarriage of justice indeed - for Alison Shaughnessy, 2 Aug. 2014
When I first opened this book, I thought "Eurgh!" Bernard O'Mahoney is the kind of thug that gives thugs a bad name. But! Read on...Apparently Mr O'M wandered into the Taylor sisters' trial by accident. When you read this, you will be sure that nothing ol' Bernie does is by accident - making a few bob out of them wasn't far from his mind, but Bernie (in contrast to 99% of the British public) became convinced of their innocence. Clearly his scumdar was set to 'off' that day and he eagerly begins to attempt to nobble prosecution witnesses, con the media and get one over on the filth, all on behalf of the sisters' cause.
Creepily reminiscent of Michelle Taylor's, "Who looks at the mantelpiece while you're stoking the fire?" relationship with John Shaughnessy, Bernie has a fling with her. It ends in tears (hers) and fury (his) as she confesses to murder. Bernie's been had! Him! The nonce-whisperer himself. This is where the story starts to grip. Bernie is harassed and goes to press. The Taylor's' try to gag him and tit for tat ensues. The Taylor's are faced with a civil trial with all the evidence from their murder trial presented again. They cave in. Bernie is vindicated and can tell the troof. In addition, he can put the boot into the Guardian's crime reporter, Nick Davies, and two-faced muckraker extraordinaire, Paul Foot - proving that it's not only those standing outside Essex nightclubs wearing tuxedos that need a moral compass.
RIP Alison Shaughnessy, who saw the snake in her Garden of Eden far, far too late.

DCI Rabbit Ears Salad Server, White
Offered by Thrifty Gifts
Price: £10.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Rabbit, rabbit - yore avvin a larf, 2 Aug. 2014
Let's face it - salad, bit boring? Okay, it's better than when I was a kid as you can chuck in sundried tomatoes, some olives and a smidgeon of basil, but still - meh. So, if like me, you're pretty juvenile, get these bunny ears - you can smile while the lettuce wilts.

Cats, eh? Mine ate this grudgingly, with a curled lip, but they did eat it. Obviously prefer Royal Canin - naturally - it's more expensive > sigh <

The Asylum
The Asylum
by Johan Theorin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.39

1.0 out of 5 stars The lunatic has taken over, 2 Aug. 2014

This review is from: The Asylum (Paperback)
Mega disappointing. Have really loved all of Johan Theorin's books (especially the first two) and so couldn't wait to get my hands on this. Why is that authors taking on the subject of mental health feel that watching American horror movies of the sixties and seventies is an acceptable means of research? OK, 'fess up, I've never been to Sweden but somehow I don't think their mental health services make Soviet era gulags look like Sandals' resorts. Are you a sociopathic total loser? You can get a job in Swedish child psychiatry no questions asked if Mr Theorin's to be believed. Not good, not good at all.

Wow! Disappointing if you are an Indridason fan. Think this was found at the back of his agent's drawer, under some cobwebs, and published to cash in on his recent success. Quite the daftest story line I've read in years. If you like Nazi conspiracy thrillers, read The Boys from Brazil or The Quiller Memorandum instead.
